I... wasn't even aware such a thing existed.
Likes many underrated webcomicsIt's not just degrees, it's entire colleges.
Somehow you know that the time is right.Yup, I remember seeing ads for those colleges in Nintendo Power.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter! That and a nickel can get you a cup of coffee. I'd say just stick with things like graphic design and 3d animation, theres more options for you at the end of it than just aiming for one specfic industry.
A friend of mine went to DigiPen for a year or two but didn't finish, though he did enjoy his time there I think. I think that overall one's best bets for getting into game design are the fields GIG mentioned, and the modding/level design community, which Epic and id have both recruited from in the past.
Somehow you know that the time is right.Depends if its a reputable course and a reputable university. I'm actualy studying game design at Macquarie, so its signifigantly less of a scam than some universities. Ultimately most of the skills can still be applied to other jobs that require programming, creative writing, etcetera.
it depends on the course. stuff like Graphic Design ( where a lot of computer artists come from) or Game Design can be good fields if studied at a reputable college. "degree in video games" is usually the vague sort of lingo posted by scam schools.
What do you think of college degrees in video games? Is it a worthwhile pursuit, or is it too specialized? Is it truly necessary to obtain a job in the game industry?
