Better question: Why do people even buy EA games at all if they can be locked out of playing them for any reason or no reason at all?

Stuff like this is gonna be the death of gaming.

If the circumstances are as they say in that thing, that's very dickish. Someone who mentions your name gets you in trouble, sounds like it was done in an overly systematic way.

I wonder if the original post can be pulled up though, so we can make our own judgements.

EDIT: Actually, thinking even deeper into it, this is even worse than I realized. As someone pointed out on Escapist, this basically means that the Terms of Service for the EA forums and EA games are tied together. WTF? I hope this is just EA being a dick and not an industry standard. I personally wouldn't know, since the only Official company forums I'm a member of is Namco's (via the Tales forum) and Atlus's. As far as I'm aware of, being banned from those forums doesn't automatically lock you out of DLC, online play or anything like that.

EA should be subject to litigation for this. Of course corporations have more rights than human beings in the United States, because it apparently stimulates the economy, and they could just outspend the poor guy anyway.

I've read through the IGN post and the thread on The Escapist (linked from IGN), and no where do I find anything about it other than what MT has said about it.

While I realize it's SOP for pretty much any company to not comment on disciplinary measures taken against their customers/users/etc, all I'm seeing is a whole lot of RAEGing and very little actual substance other than the quoted messages from EA.

I suppose it's too much to ask that when EA is mentioned people actually think instead of flying into a frothing rage, but did anyone stop to consider the possibility that it's being either blown out of proportion or outright fabricated?*

Reading the responses here and on those other sites, it doesn't seem like it.

[up] True that. I would like some more confirmation and information about this situation before jumping to a conclusion. Of course, EA kinda has a substantial negative reputation with these communities so... I wonder how much more damage this will cause...

Indeed - the comments on that video seem to suggest that the guy who was banned was something of a troll who may or may not have been using sockpuppets to cause mischief, so maybe his ban wasn't entirely unwarranted.

I can understand asking for confirmation, but whenever one of these incidents tends to happen or get mentioned, EA seems to just sit around silently and not comment/give automated responses. You mentioned SO Ps. Fair enough. But things are getting ridiculous now. EA has to answer or take responsibility, anything that shows a sign they're aware of this or know it's a hoax or something. Show us they care. Otherwise, they'll never get rid of all that negativity.

In any case, there were some pictures in that thread of the user logging in and getting an "Account Banned" message. You can see the profile information on the right too.

> EA games

g of a troll who may or may not have been using sockpuppets to cause mischief, so

This still doesn't warrant preventing someone from playing games he bought.

Imagine I've bought a TV. But I made some prank calls, so i can't use it, ever. seems legit

This shouldn't even matter. That they even have the ability to stop people from playing their legally purchased games is a travesty. DRM like this should be outlawed for the protection of consumers.

I agree- even if the guy was trolling, he could just be banned from the forums, but the fact that EA can block access to games one bought legally over this is outrageous.

Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.

[up] Hold on. From what I understand, the guy got called a "NOOB B**** C***" first, and then banned, for, like, nothing.

Well, as soon as Mass Effect 3 comes out, it's time to fire up the ol' muTorrent and go back to the school days in regard to, uh, acquisition of any new game EA churns out. With X360 games, I can still buy used.

[up][up][up] True. He could be banned from the forums but, not from his games. That should be separate. This is definitely outrageous though.

[up][up] Ugh Let's not support piracy and torrenting. If you don't like their practices, then buy used or don't buy the game at all.

[up] Most likely so. Even if he was acting as a jerk, he should not be blocked from utilizing his bought goods.

I hate to play Devil's Advocate but he did agree to it. It's in the EULA and regardless of if it's wrong that they did this, he chose to go with it. And this is why you glance over the things you agree to.
