A short while ago I started a thread in the Trope Repair Shop(here) regarding the Dead Horse Genre page. Obviously it's become somewhat obscure (even I'd forgotten making it until I saw it linked on the DHG page itself).

What does everyone think of the trope? What exactly causes the once-adoring public to abandon a genre and decide they never liked it in the first place?

Oversaturation, usually.

I think the question is what makes them like it so much in the first place. DH Gs are trends, and like everything else, they come and go. They're just a part of the culture of the time, and once the trend is over, people look back and think to themselves, "I used to listen to this shit?", because culture has moved on.

There are snakes in the grass, so we'd better go hunting!
