You call that messing up?
...
What good is a phone call, Mr. Watson, if you have no mouth?
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable^I accidentally started it with a watercolour pencil instead of a chalk pastel pencil, switched to another not-pastel-pencil, then went home and bought a proper one. Then I discovered that it wouldn't layer on top of the existing watercolour, which I had used most heavily on the face. That meant I couldn't draw the eyes properly, and since the eyes are key to portrait drawing...at this point I gave up for a week.
I also sort of switched styles between the face and clothes - normally I use more detail on the face and roughly suggesting the clothing to create focus, but due to the above problems and the break, this picture has detailed clothing and rough face. Hopefully I can fix it up a bit later.
Progress for today◊. I think it's going all right.

"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajHis lips look... off.
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable^I can't draw mouths.

My DeviantArt Domain My Tumblr@Yuan: I think maybe his bottom lip looks too flat.
A very bored looking young man/woman: about one hour◊, as I'm out of practice and was distracted.

"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajA not at all well-planned project I started in May and am only now resuming.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)The third page of my webcomic.◊
All it needs now is a background. Oh yeah, and a smear of tone representing the first brushstroke.
This is three separate drawings stitched together, if it wasn't obvious. Mot of the webcomic will be done that way. Yes, it's time-consuming, but it gets better results and lets you blur backgrounds, control contrast on individual elements, etc.

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)This is one of the most unusual angles I've drawn in a while. I got the mouth a bit wrong, but I don't have time to redo it. Overall, I think it came out fair enough.

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)The mouth looks weird (kind of like it has no lips?) and the brows strike me as a little off too somehow, but they aren't the focus of the image so it looks pretty good overall. :)
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableThanks! Not sure why I didn't respond sooner.
Anyway...
Page 21, step 1: The raw scan. It’s a mess, but they all start out like that.◊

It could be interpreted as being about to say something, but to me she just looks surprised (which would play into awkward quite neatly, I think).
