The current image for the trope page is Abin Sur giving Green Lantern his ring. However, the Green Lantern ring is not a MacGuffin. A MacGuffin is, but definition, something that the characters want, while serving no further purpose in the story. Green Lantern's ring cannot be a MacGuffin, as it's gives him both the power and the purpose for becoming a superhero. Abin Sur giving the ring to Hal Jordan is more like a case of Take Up My Sword. I already removed the Green Lantern example from the text, but I think the image should be changed too.

This trope might be hard to depict. It would be a classic case of JAFAAC unless the image can expressly tell what is going on... and even then it's hard to tell that the object in question is a MacGuffin.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, agree on pull.

I disagree on the grounds that nobody uses that definition. If we were to use the literal definition of a Macguffin you'd have to delete half the page.

But even if we were to use the literal definition I'd be willing to argue that is a good example, because oddly enough, the page being so vague diminishes the significance of the ring, it's jsut a dying guy handing something to another guy.

I'm agreeing with the pull since, without knowing what's in the speech bubble, it just looks like somebody talking to his Precious.

Like someone else pointed out, instead of getting rid of half the examples here that don't technically involve macguffins, why not just make the trope a little broader? Change it to "I'm dying please take my plot device", bring back the original image, and call it a day.

That image doesn't illustrate Im Dying Please Take My Plot Device either. It doesn't really illustrate anything.
