I too wondered at how they could ban half an account.

This is pretty huge though. I wonder how this would affect me if I was still playing. Less bot-farming would've been sick.

Well, they have banned bots in large amounts before. But this here is pretty massive.

...hmmm, perhaps time to renew my membership and start selling maple and flax again.

After seeing this thread title I decided to try and access my old account. I haven't even played Runescape in over two years and I'm evidently banned, likely because of this. Oh well, that stuff got boring pretty quick.

i never understood the appeal of that game. but that must suck for any innocent players.

my account was fine. probably because I actually chat nicely... I hope.

but yeah, 1.5 million. most servers have around 65 people in them now. o.o

lol, actually i havn't played in months, and regularly in years. I usually pop in for holiday events though.

This raises the question, what poor schmuck got half their account banned? And how does that work? Is he now only allowed to log in on even-numbered days?

Personally, I believe that an unwanted bot infestation is seldom if ever the root problem, but rather a symptom of poorly-designed game mechanics. If you design your game well, there should be either no reason to bot except as an interesting exercise in programming AI, or no feasible way to create an effective bot without a Ph.D. in Computer Science.
