Oh My God, this looks awesome! Coraline has found a place as one of my favorite animated movies rather quickly, so lets hope this holds up too.

Its great to see Stop-Motion not going the same direction as 2-D when faced with competition from CG.

[up] It probably helps that it also has a 3-D feel to it.

Has anyone else noticed that more and more stop motion films tend to drift toward the horror genre these days?

I suppose that kind of animation fits that genre.

I'm a sucker for stop-motion. Ever since I first saw Wallace And Gromit and later Chicken Run I've always loved it. Coraline was great and this is like a Spiritual Successor to it! I'm so glad stop motion has been revived as mainstream animation; it's such a breath of fresh air from all the CGI cartoons if we can't get traditional animation.

[up] I'd almost forgotten about Chicken Run. What a great little movie that was.

[up][up] Having grown up on Aardman, I'm quite partial to stop-motion, and 2012 is a very good year for it. Hopefully it'll be back to stay.

The first time I saw this trailer, I was a bit shocked when I realized it wasn't CGI! It's some very fluid stop-motion, isn't it?

My only complaint is why are they releasing this in the summer?! This has "Halloween movie" written all over it! Tch! Inconsiderate of the spirit of the season. tongue

[up]Two other horror-themed animated movies are being released around Halloween already. I suppose it's to avoid competition.

Saw it and really enjoyed it. Was anyone else surprised when Mitch revealed he was gay? I mean in terms of this being a film aimed at (admittedly older) children.

[up]that was my only complaint about the movie not that it's wrong or anything just to my knowledge, when homosexuality is not essential to the plot only gay men are allowed to exist.

[up][up]two? okay that Berton one and?

[up] Hotel Transylvania, probably. Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie! The writing and animation were great, but my only real hang up was some of the overly crude humor (a prime example being Norman asking if swearing means the " F word".) It kind of took me out of the movie, but it was a minor complaint Though I had no problem with the Mitch reveal, if only because it makes more sense looking back at the rest of the movie and how uninterested he was in Courtney. And it was a pretty shocking reveal in a modern kids flick.

It wasn't a problem for me either.

Moving on, I loved the climax.

I was really impressed. I think this will be the best of the three Halloweeny animated films this year.

Sure was nice of a Salem Witch Trials story to focus on the children that suffered rather then Hocus Pocus stuff

I really liked the role reversal in this film. You know, the mob being more hostile than the zombies, and of course the mob being the witch trials all over again.

It reminded me of Devil Man in a way. The writing, at least.

Just saw it today and HOLY SHIT, how the heck did they do all that in stop-motion? With Coraline and now this, Laika Animation is really pushing the boundary of visual effect in stop-motion.

This is why I find stop-motion more amazing than CGI. The stuff they do there can be easily explained, but stop-motion always has that sense of wonder about it. I always find myself asking, "How did they do that?"

Guys, I just realized something rather horrifying about Agatha. You know how the witch was sentenced to hanging? Well, A child of her age wouldn't have the body weight to snap her own neck, so she would have suffered for hours. Eurgh.

We should add that to the Fridge Horror page for the movie.
