A superhero movie where everyone is an obnoxious asshole? And it's not a comedy? I'll pass.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Superhero movie? I thought this was supposed to be more of a horror movie.
I thought so too. Then the superhero powers come into play.
Also, it looks like the most recent Hellraiser sequel in places (the one that tried to rip off Paranormal Activity).
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Okay, Revelations had myriad problems, but it was not a Paranormal Activity ripoff. That's ridiculous. It was just a terrible movie in general with a shot-on-camcorder prologue, and its script was older than PA.
And I don't see how "superpowers" and "horror movie" are mutually exclusive.

I had an idea almost exactly like this once... .___. dammit.
Well, fuck me. A buddy cop Hancock? No thank you.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Er, that doesn't seem like such a great description of it. But whatever.
I'd go see it. Seems interesting enough. I don't really mind the characters, and whatever it seems like a bit of a ripoff of, I'm not familiar with...
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series. It's kind of like the opposite of Kick-ass in my opinion. In Kick-Ass a normal guy with no powers decides to become a superhero in a comedy with some drama elements. In Chronicle several guys get super-powers and decide to be dicks in a dramatic setting with some comedic elements. I personally think it looks interesting and I'm certainly going to see it.
Yea, the idea seems to be what the average young adult male would do with psychic powers (namely, be a dick), but then it turns out that one of them is some sort of sociopath
I think they would do one of two things:
1. Hide it from the world and either use it for good or use it before it's too late.
or
2. Be an ass and be hellbent on taking over the world (OF COURSE!).

More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Oh my god this is hilarious. This is totally what me and my friends would end up doing if we had superpowers, before going out and crime fighting like a boss. Hells yeah. I want to see this movie.
"Shit, our candidate is a psychopath. Better replace him with Newt Gingrich."Well what if superpowers were a bit more random? What if an average teenager got their hands on them? You know, the emotional, hormone washed, dumber than shit, self absorbed average teenager suddenly had super powers? That couldn't possibly be a bad thing could it?
Lets face it, who hasn't imagined what you'd do if you had super powers, and how much of that was instantly leaping into crime fighting? Didn't you consider the power perversion potential even a little bit? I mean, Superman's ability to see through objects. I know in High School I'd have immediately hung out near the girl's locker room ALL DAY.
So yeah, I see a lot of potential in the premise. Now, how they execute it we'll see, but the idea itself has merit.
"Tyyr's a necessary evil. " SpiritOkay, this looks hella cool.
I mean, uh, whatever adjective normal people use.
Wait, I'm confused. How did you get the "horror" vibe before the "superhero" one, seeing as from what I gathered from the trailer the former stems from the latter (i.e. telekinetic superpowers)?
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars. When the project was first announced, Fox and some film sites had it mentioned as horror (of course, the film sites probably never saw a script). Then the trailer came out and showed it as being a superhero film.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Having superpowers does not make a superhero film. Superhero Tropes make the superhero genre. If you are thinking "But they have powers, how on Earth could it be a horror film, my brain cannot comprehend how they go together." I remind you that the guys in the video have the same powers as Carrie. The idea that you don't want to be giving telekinetic powers to teenagers with issues has been around for a while.
Buscemi, you're a great poster but your analysis always seems to suck.
What kind of power would you get from an asteroid other than superpowers? The Meteor Man got near a asteroid and got superpowers. Asteroids don't give you telekinesis.
The characters in Chronicle definitely do not have telekinesis.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/^ They're moving stuff with their minds. That's the definition of telekinesis.
Asteroids don't give you superpowers at all. Why does it matter if they get telekinesis?
I think he meant that they don't "just" have telekinesis, as they're shown to have a Flying Brick power-set (that still probably comes from their telekinetic abilities à la "tactile telekinesis").
Calling it a Superhero film is kind of weird, though.
In the trailer, the characters are shown to get their superpowers from an asteroid. I used The Meteor Man as an example of how asteroids are sometimes depicted in superhero fiction. You are right that in real life, touching an asteroid would do nothing.
But if they had telekinesis, they wouldn't have as much power as shown.
Another power shown in the trailer is invisibility. You know, like The Invisible Woman.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Bluh? I'm not following you here. They clearly have extremely powerful telekenesis, along with some Flying Brick shenanigans thrown into the mix.
This is not a superhero film, in my opinion. The only super-anything in here is the superpowers, and these guys sure as fuck aren't any definition of Hero or Anti-Hero. I'm not really getting any horror vibes from this either, besides the whole "zooomg staticy transitions" and the panicked dudes and when it suddenly goes into this shaky-cam/helicopter POV thingy. Yeah. But the premise and plot certainly do not seem to be horror movie.
I get the feeling this is not going to be as great as the simple, easy-to-do premise would let the movie be. They're trying to make this a horror movie when it's...not, really.
Whatcha gonna do, little buckaroo? | i be pimpin' madoka ficsTelekinesis is just bending spoons and turning book pages at 100 mph. This looks much bigger than that.
Like Magneto's powers. That's definitely not telekinesis.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/It looks really good from the trailer. I definitely plan to see it. I love all these Blair Witch-like hand cam movies.
