Okay, so a couple decide to be foster parents, and take in a pair of siblings. When the siblings are five they start gaining superhuman powers, it goes to the parents heads. Any ways the parents could take advantage? Like the dad is having a mid life crises, so he does dangerous stuff to impress his mates, with the kids standing by. They force the kids into way to many sports, leaving them with no time to pursue their own interests, they get them to use super speed to shoplift, ectera.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

Would this be too over the top? Dad get's passed over for a really good job, makes the kids beat the shit out of the guy who got it.

Drama, occasionally very dark comedy.

Selling them to the military, or emotionally abusing them are two things that come to mind, right off the bat, but why are the parents going to be abusive, anyways?

It's a deconstruction of Superman's back story.

Doesn't seem like a deconstruction. More like just giving a superman like character crappy parents. Also, what were the parents' motives for adopting the kids? Was it out of a rivalry with the family across the street? It would have to be for some selfish reason if these parents were to be suddenly abuse the kids once they found out they had powers. Otherwise, the transition would be rather jarring for any audience taking it in.

Here's a revamped premise. Basically the parents did adopt them out of kindness, but they panicked when the kids gained superpowers, and they decided to they had to try and keep the world safe from them, even if it mean't doing awful things to them.

I can't see this concept happening without the kids holding the very real threat of death over the parents' heads.

You mean if the kids powers were of the life threatening kind, the kind that cause serious bodily harm?

[up]evil grin So now the parents are trying to keep their kids from going out of control, and they think that entails psychological abuse.

You seem...awfully happy about that. It's kinda creepy. That being said, this doesn't really sound like a deconstruction, just a Dark and Gritty Superhero story. I mean, a proper deconstruction of The Kents would be a a normal couple with flaws who don't have all the answers, aren't paragons of virtue and make mistakes. They may not have been the best parents, but they were still parents first and they most certainly would not be dicks. Not without a very good reason for being so and no, showing off to the Dinkleburgs is not and good reason.

At the moment your characters sound like a pair of jackasses. If that's what your going for then good job. If not, you might want to rethink a few things.

You sure this isn't Played for Laughs? It sounds more suited to a comedy than a drama, unless the parents are criminally stupid and unintentionally abuse them in other ways.

The deconstruction is of pre crises Ma and Pa Kent. Pre Crises Superman had his powers from a very young age, I think most people wouldn't be able to maintain a healthy home life in those situations.
