Yeah, I imagine hiding a boner when you don't wear clothes is a lot harder than when you do XD
It's been... a fair while since my last update, hasn't it?
I've been havign a bit of trouble getting motivated for it. There's work shit involved - shitty job after shitty job, to make a long story short - but a lot of it is the arc isn't really as good for as many jokes as I thought it would be, so I'm having trouble finding a way to wrap it up without going too quick and seeming like I've done an Aborted Arc. A friend has suggested that I do something surprising with it to reinvigorate my interest, try and add in a story... I have a vague idea for a story I could bring in: Hoops and Dumbbell run into Dumbbell's Dad at IKEA. Problem is, that's a bit of a heavy element to introduce in the middle of a gag arc...
Ah dunno. Anyone have any thoughts on shit that can go down in an IKEA?
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Hm...Maybe a pillow fight?
Well, I started up working on some blog posts again last night...
Uuuuunfortunately I lost the notebook that had all of my notes in it. Notes for the next two arcs. I remember MOST of it, although the details are hazy... either way I have enough to continue on.
I'm going to work on a bunch this week and hopefully get up a buffer. Then I'm going to try and set up a once-per-week posting schedule, probably posting on Sundays. So hopefully that goes well.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Uh oh O.o Hope you can find it again.
Hopefully, but I kind of doubt it. I think I may have left it back at a company I was working on-sight at for a month... which means there's really no way of getting it back if that's the case.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. In a rather weird coincidence, I've been playing an FPS called Verdun as Princess Luna, with a friend who goes by Derpy Hooves.
... does it take place in Montreal? Explanation: Verdun is a former city in Quebec that was merged with Montreal and is now a township. One of the more popular residential ones, in fact.
Also, Ask Hoops and Dumbbell has had a fairly popular resurrection, it seems. 30 new followers today.
...including a really, really obvious foot fetish question. Which is kind of weird, and I kind of want to make a joke about Hoops and Bell being weirded out by the question, but the fact of the matter is as far as fetish questions go, it's pretty tame and I don't have much of a problem with a foot fetish... it's just weird. To me, at least.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Kegi, I loved Bell's dorky smile when he was talking about the pillows on one of the beds XD
Hey, I found my notebook with all of my story arc notes in it!
Which is good, because there's a fair amount of good stuff in there. One or two I missed, sadly, but I think I can recover a joke or two, and plenty of plans for the future. So that's nice.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Yaaaaaaaaaay.
Also Kegi, I laughed at Hoops' obsession with the kitchen set XD His little "Noooooooo~" x3
Hurray!
Yeah, for some reason I find tiny whines to be like, unreasonably funny.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. It's a secret to everyone.
It's his Dad. Who he definitely doesn't have any issues with at all. Nope.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Welp, the IKEA arc is finished!
the last comic in it won't be published for a few weeks, but I've finished drawing it at least. I think I'll take a break from arc stuff and just do a few random ask posts for a while... There's a few in my box that aren't sex-related.
Two of them related to tickling hooves... I suspect from the same anon... ah well.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I asked something, too.
Welp, got some ask-inspired posts done, in a little mini-arc. Thanks for the questions, all. I'll probably wind up doing a few more the next time I do a sprint(I tend to take a week and make 5-7 comics in a row, then go for a month without doing any more than scheduling them to be posted).
And, in totally unrelated thoughts, This song really makes me want to draw Dumbbell boxing some more.
I've even been doing a bit of research on boxing and thinking about Dumbbell would have done it back in his heyday. I'd wanted to develop a style for him that was both skilled, so he didn't come across as just a thug, but at the same time clearly reliant on having a lot of aggression, since the main reason he got into boxing in the first place was a way of venting and proving his own masculinity to himself while in the bowls of the closet. The style I settled one was a very fast, very technical style that basically revolved around turning everything into an attack - dodge into a jab, duck into an uppercut, etc., while relying on disorienting the enemy enough to get in a falling punch for power.
A falling punch, for those unfamiliar with the term, being a punch that involves moving your entire body, putting a huge amount of momentum into it. Basically it is to a punch what a punch is to a jab.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I'd say he'd be an in-boxer then, rather than an out-boxer. Getting close in, relying on strength and whatnot.
Yeah, that's about what I figured. Looking into a bit, a boxer called Rocky Marciano would be a solid comparison - though I doubt Dumbbell would have gone completely undefeated in his career if he'd stuck with boxing.
The style is being kind of tricky to imagine, though, mostly because, since I typically only draw Dumbbell beside Hoops, I tend to have trouble remembering that he's actually a really big guy. I think of him as small, but looking back at the show he's practically twice the size of Rainbow Dash, certainly larger than the average stallion.

Hoops is basically the best character because if I don't have any solid jokes for a strip, I can just have him in the background doing something silly and it'll always make perfect sense.
By his standards at least.

Both? :p
