Well, technically it does because it's easier to identify which ninja turtle is which thanks to color, but the idea of the trope is more centered around the fact that the color helps you identify who the good guys and bad guys are, or which character is aligned with which element, and so on. There's some MEANING behind the color, not just that they're differently colored. The ninja turtle example is more for the ARTIST'S convenience, since it means they can get away with simple character design.

Hence I propose this picture for the topic:

with the subtext "Wide shot bad guys elevating bad guys" linking to either Tobuscus or the youtube vid for Literal Tron Legacy Trailer, where Tobuscus shows he's aware of this trope:

The trope is not "Using color to tell the good guys from the bad guys". That's only one way it's used.

The very paragraph that you cherry-picked that also says:

"One way to do that is to use color as an indicator that two things are different (when using different colors) or two things belong to the same category (when using the same colors). Color can indicate who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, they can indicate personality type, they can say things about gameplay elements in a video game, which organization or group the person belongs to, and so on.

Typically in teams, or more generally among the main cast, characters may be associated with certain colors in promotional material, or have them prominently displayed on their outfit or uniform."

That "And so on" at the end of the first paragraph I quoted is really important, since it means "and in other ways that still count, even if we didn't list them all here."

Besides that, the picture you want to replace it with doesn't have much visible color-coding at all. They're nothing to indicate whether they're the good guys or the bad guys, or something else entirely. The only thing the colors of the lights indicate is that the guy in the center is not the same ads the guys to either side. Unless you are very familiar with whatever work it's from.

Suggested image doesn't show the trope on it's own. Current image does. I don't see the point of this thread. We have a great image that doesn't show any of the subtropes instead.

I'm good with the current pic.

Current pic works, although it needs the caption to get the point across.

Current picture doesn't need the caption. It would still show the difference that colour coding makes in telling things apart without it. It's certainly better than something that doesn't even show the trope.

Current image is good, but here's a horizontal version to help save space.

Horizontal works. The current image is longer than the trope description.

I went ahead and swapped it in...we can keep discussing unless there's a consensus to keep it.
