so now both the #3 and #4 overall picks of last year have been suspended for PEDs

2013's shaping up to be a great draft class.

lobby for marijuana legalization so that they can start cracking down on real things and stop wasting half these violators' time

I'm with ch00beh on this one. Treat marijuana like alcohol. Unless the players are doing stupid things like driving while stoned, they don't really need to be punished for smoking the occasional joint. And all that effort that you don't spend on disciplining players who use marijuana can instead be spent disciplining players who drive drunk, commit acts of domestic violence, and do stupid things with guns.

Josh Gordon arrested once again, now in North Carolina. Reportedly a DWI.

Okay, NFL. Enough pussyfooting around the issue. Either do something about him, and soon, or prove to the fans of the NFL that you are indeed a paper tiger.

And now a picture of Johnny Manziel rolling a 20-dollar bill in the bathroom of a Las Vegas club is making its way around the media, not even a week after the Browns told him to "tone it down".

He's free to do what he wants but he's not really keeping the critics at bay.

For the first time since 1965, the NFL Draft will not be taking place in NYC. The 2015 NFL draft has been narrowed down to two final cities: Chicago and Los Angeles.Link to the article on NFL.com

I can understand if they choose Chicago because of its football history and how close the Bears have been linked with the city. I would be pretty mystified if they chose LA though.

They might want LA as a first step to putting a team there.

49ers extend Joe Staley's contract two years as a giant fuck you to Vernon Davis and Alex Boone

Odd confession: Despite my normal hatred of most things 49ers, I actually kind of like Vernon Davis. Part of it is respect for his talent. He could basically be a Jimmy Graham who can block if he were in a high-volume offense. The other half is pity. He's one of the most freakishly athletic players in the league, and whenever we talk about him in Seattle, the first thing that comes up is his status as Kam Chancellor's punching bag. I'd love to see him thriving on a team like the Packers or the Chargers.

He's one of the most talented tight ends in the league, but in his last two games against my Panthers, he's been the beneficiary of two absolutely outrageous calls (one was even upheld after review), so though I respect him, I am a little bitter about him.

Ravens running back Ray Rice (say that five times fast) will be suspended two games in response to the incident caught on video in Atlantic City where he knocked his fiancee out, and dragged her from an elevator. Too little or too much? Discuss.

My personal opinion is it's nowhere near enough. People like Lane Johnson (4th overall pick 2013 draft, tackle, Eagles) are getting suspended for twice as long for taking PED's, but apparently we're going to take a lighter stance when it comes to full on assault. He should be suspended for longer, in my opinion. It would truly show this type of behavior just won't fly, and it might actually make enough of an impact on someone like him to change (because you tend to notice when you stop getting paid).

I completely agree. The league, for whatever reason seems to be taking the stance that, for example, smoking a few joints is worse than assaulting your girlfriend. For comparison-sake, after threatening to sue the league, Brandon Browner managed to get his suspension reduced to twice that of Rice. His crime was testing positive for such a small amount of marijuana that he may have simply been in a room where someone was smoking a joint, and missing a bunch of drug tests because he was in the CFL. Which of those guys deserves a bigger suspension?

My guess is that this means the league will be lenient on Aldon Smith too. I guess you can do whatever you want in this league as long as you aren't using illegal drugs.

I can't believe it, but Colin Cowherd finally said something I agreed with.

I too, find it funny that the NFL and its players stepped up and spoke out against Riley Cooper when he used the n-word, yet Ray Rice beats his wife and everyone is suddenly quiet.

So, the NFL is using "I Want it Now" to promote some sort of instant replay app.

Um, NFL? You do realize what that song is about, right?

Obligatory double post apology.

This is kind of cool: It's ranking all 32 teams using a point-based measure of "greatness".

So the top two running backs on the Steelers depth chart were recently arrested for marijuana possession. Le'Veon Bell and LeGarratte Blount were pulled over, along with an unknown woman were pulled over, and the car was searched when the officer smelled marijuana. Sure enough, there was 20g in the car. While I'm normally very pro-marijuana legalization, these guys were driving while stoned, which is something I am very much opposed to. Also, I should probably make the obligatory LeGarratte Blunt joke.

Chris Mortensen @mortreport 27s Rams QB Sam Bradford is out for season after MRI shows he did tear left knee ACL, per sources. Rams will announce later today. @ESPNNFL

So in what will probably be Bradford's final season with the Rams, he finishes with

  • Record: 18-30-1
  • Losing Seasons: 4
  • Playoff Appearances: 0
  • Games Missed: 31
  • QB Rating: 79.3
  • Completion Percentage: 58.6%

I suppose that the worst part about this season-ending injury is that he strung them along for so long into believing that he'd be finally healthy, damaging their chances at what could be a very good title window in the next few years thanks to all of their great draft picks.

The Rams need to find an answer at QB, ASAP.
