Is it a bit weird that I immediately thought: "That could be handy for when I'm writing!" and pasted it into a word document?

In order:

  • Death
  • Losing freedom
  • Misery
  • Pain (extreme pain, that is; I can handle regular amounts just fine)

The rest, I have no fear of.

  • Failure. So. Very. Much.

Also, pain, and losing my freedom.

To be more specific, most of the other fears can be seen as elaboration upon failure/freedom.

So, in order, it would be more or less

  • Failure
    • Disappointment (as much as it indicates failure)
    • Ridicule (as much as it indicates failure)
    • Rejection (as much as it indicates failure. Not meaningful on it's own)
    • Misery (this one is very afraid of poverty, and used to think that it is because she is used to certain level of comfort. Spoiled middle-class child. But the more this one thinks of it, the more it seems that the main fear is not as much lack of comfort as failure. Being indicated as the least successful of the family)
    • Unknown (only as far as it is related to failure. To not knowing what do to avoid it. On itself, unknown is an attraction, not fear, for this one)
  • Losing my freedom
    • Misery (poverty cuts one's positive freedoms. Beggars can't be choosers)
  • Pain (The lest deliberating fear, though)

The rest are pretty meaningless

As nothing on the list really fazes me that much, heights and ridicuously tiny animals.

In Order from greatest to least:

  1. Failure + Rejection - tied for 1st place, as rejection is a type of failure to me.
  2. Disappointment
  3. Loneliness
  4. Losing your freedom
  5. Ridicule
  6. Misery
  7. Pain
  8. Death
  9. The Unknown

I'm pretty open minded so the unknown doesn't concern me. Anything about the future falls under either disappointment or failure anyway.

Also I have to say that the only proper "fears" I have are rejection, failure, and heights. The rest I had to properly think about and the stuff after "loneliness" don't even count.

Disappointment. Disappointing people who trust me is the one thing I fear the most.

Failure, to me, is just a fact of life — you try to understand where it went wrong, and then get up and try again.

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

I don't like failure, but I wouldn't say I'm afraid of it. That has more to do with my belief in my abilities than it does with any tolerance for failure, though.

Pain and death. And the fear of those isn't limited to them happening to me.

Imprisonment. Without books, I mean. You can leave me alone in a dark cell with just books, and the most basic writing supplies (like, a Macintosh Plus or something just as old) and I'll be fine. But you give me one of these*

treatments, and I'll probably be broken forever:

Failure.

Loneliness, if it's for a punishment, such as being left in a dark cell with nobody for the rest of my life.

For me, failure is number one, and losing my freedom is second. Death and the unknown don't bother me. I'm often in pain due to migraines and back problems, generally disappointed by people daily, tend to be a loner, already faced rejection and ridicule quite a bit, and although not falling into "misery," I'm lower middle class and tend to live off of toast at the end of the month; most of these I'm pretty much used to.

I'm also afraid of tornadoes and unfamiliar stairs, but those aren't on the list.

Rejection and failure. It's what prevents me from asking others out on a date. Its best not to even think of this when trying something new. I do this despite this being a part of the learning process.
