[up][up] Considering that Gabriel air jousted the hell out of him, I'm leaning towards no. Now, whether Gabriel as Dracul/Dracula will become the next Big Bad or not is left up in the air.

[up]I think you're forgetting something:

"Satan's acolytes are readying for his imminent return."

This suggests to me that his part in the story is far from over. I think the reason Gabriel brought Satan to heel so easily was because he literally had God on his side. When Zobek pleads for help also suggest defeating him will be harder the next time around.

My only worry is that thanks to the epilogue, the charm of never finding out who the bad guys are until the very end will be lost.

A Belmont who becomes Dracula, yeah, I like the sound of that, but, lets make it in the way that the last Belmont in the lineage become Dracula, some mood wishplash, and now time to get new heroes

While that could make for a good plot twist if the story is presented well enough, I don't think that's entirely plausible, seeing as there are probably several offshoot families (especially in the time of Lords of Shadows; I wouldn't be surprised if Gabriel had a few cousins lying around), not to mention that there have been quite a few games where the Belmont was removed from the equation to bring in a non-affiliated hero (see Alucard, Cornell, Nathan, Shanoa; even Soma counts by a technicality).

Nathan is. Cornell's actually canon according to IGA, but he's in "mostly irrelevant gaiden game" territory.

Yeah, 64 and Legacy actually happened, they're just really inconsequential to the overall timeline. Legends and Sonia Belmont were struck from canon due to the implications that Sonia and Alucard shagged up and had Trevor, which would make the Belmonts descendants of Drac himself (many fans tend to ignore IGA's statement anyway, and some believe IGA to be sexist due to the whole fiasco; anyway, if you piece together the timeline, it makes sense that Alucard being Trevor's dad is the whole reason Legends is non-canon, although Order of Ecclesia ironically makes the retcon somewhat senseless), but The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge are indeed canon.

I keep hearing that the N64 games and COTM are canon, but the evidence I've found is sketchy at best.

-Their presence on a preorder timeline that didn't include Legends. I have heard that they aren't on there in the Japanese version.

-Cornell's presence in Judgment. Judgment is already of questionable canon anyways.

-IGA saying they are 'side stories.' Did he mean they still take place in the main Castlevania universe? Or that they're other stories from other worlds?

I'm not sure if it was this topic or another, but the presence of those games really clutters Castlevania Lore. Not that I hate them (I thought Legacy Of Darkness was quite fun, and so was COTM), I just don't think they fit the story. And you can't really brush them off as 'side stories' while still part of the main canon. Dracula's return is supposed to be a big event. Hence the clan of Vampire Killers dedicated solely to putting him down for the count.

Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.

Yeah, but Circle of the Moon took place in 1830 and Legacy of Darkness was set in 1844, placing both of these after Order of Ecclesia, and by the time of Ecclesia, the Belmonts had "disappeared" (with the only character of Belmont descent before the Morris clan being Reinhardt Schneider from 64, which occurs eight years after LoD in 1852). Now this is just my hunch, but by "sidestory", perhaps IGA means that it's a story not directly related to that of the Belmont family (or their offshoots/branch families).

Sometime in the early 1800s. I'm not sure how many years after SotN (1797) it takes place, though.

What year it is has never been specified. I forget if the game specifically said early 1800s, because if not it could potentially take place after the 64 games. Well, on second thought that doesn't seem likely, though I can't figure out how to explain my reasoning...

I'm still finding it hard to believe Kojima has any love for Twilight. The Lords of Shadow Vampires were almost complete polar opposites of Meyer's interpretation.
