Today my parents mistook Bay City Rollers for one hit wonders. How well known are their songs other than "Saturday Night" by the general public?
I don't know if their other hits are well known but they had two other top tens in the US and my aunt seemed to recall they had a TV show at one point.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I have an idea for OHW's next Halloween episode.
This time, it's another song that wasn't a hit proper, but became famous through other means. I guess one could say it's a viral song, since its fame was brought from use in AM Vs and similar web videos. That song is Voltaire's "When You're Evil".
Hey, better idea than 4'33 or Dazed and Confused, right?
Eh, not feeling that one. Voltaire is well known as a cult musician at the very least.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? And that's it, really. He's never a had a song that could be considered a hit even remotely.
I mean, I'd love an episode about Voltaire, but if Rage Against the Machine doesn't qualify for an episode, Voltaire does even less so.

Like I said, it's a Wall of Voodoo/Sr-71 type hit where it didn't chart but became famous through other means. In this case, though viral means. I'd be kind of like doing one on Adam and Andrew for "Emo Kid" but a far better idea.
Except Voltaire is well known for several songs, not just When You're Evil. He's a cult musician with some songs that are fairly popular on the internet, not just the one big one.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Some? When You're Evil is by far the most popular thing he's ever recorded.
Most popular doesn't mean only hit, and I'd argue that Brains and Land of the Dead are also as well known thanks to being used in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I knew about Braaaaaaaaaains years before When You're Evil. Like, over half a decade.
but HOW?Is Mike Oldfield a Hendrix Clause? I think "Mike Oldfield's Single" would make an interesting OHW episode due to Mike's career and his relative obscurity in the States. Even if he's not a Hendrix Clause, it's still an odd pick because of Mike's popularity in the UK and he has several songs that were huge hits in other countries. He's sort of like Falco but for the UK.
Could be debatable but it might work. Oldfield is praised to high heaven in prog rock circles but Tubular Bells is usually the only thing he's known for. Plus it gives Todd an excuse to talk about the Canterbury scene.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? His most successful hit is "Moonlight Shadow", though.
In Europe, it didn't chart in the US. Todd focuses on US one-hit wonders.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Also: Hall & Oates had a hit with a Mike Oldfield song, “Family Man.”
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!Huh. Interesting.
So I'm trying to think of some more 60's or 70's rock one-hit wonders Todd could cover. Was looking into Spooky Tooth and their song Better By You Better Than Me, but evidently it didn't chart at all so I don't know if that would count. He should definitely do Norman Greenbaum though, I'm surprised he hasn't done Spirit in the Sky yet. Maybe I've Got a Line by Spirit, that's a good one.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I think "Ballad of the Green Berets" by Sgt. Barry Sadler would be an interesting episode. It was a complete oddball song to chart, especially in the era that it did.
Oh definitely. Would be kinda fun to see Todd just get really flabbergasted by how big the song got in the middle of Vietnam and the counterculture's protest of it.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Way back when, Bennett the Sage spotlighted this one in his video on the 20 worst #1 hits on the Hot 100. I imagine Todd has a very similar opinion of the song, if he's even heard it.
Todd slowly describes how he feels about this juggernaut of a hit.

Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy. You know the whole not summertime music doesn't bug me that much, but that might be just because here it's more smoke haze and don't get in the water because of the water bombers (helicopters who get lake water) season than relax on the beach season. Though I guess if you wanted a party you would be out of luck. And it definitely is reinforcing the sad stuff and I'm not even in the country that's happening in.

I also bought a copy of Santana's Supernatural... just last week. (Spoilers: My mom doesn't like Santana.)
The random Bieber popup was fun.
This song really isn't bad. After all the dreary sludge we've had lately *cough*7 Years*cough* it's nice to hear some semblance of tempo, even if they had to shove the Biebs into it.
"It's SUMMER"
Yeah and for some of us it's less 'Fun on the beach!' and more 'Did you hear ? The lady down the street died of heatstroke'.
Summer in Florida is essentially "crank the AC up so you don't spontaneously combust".

Every time I see someone mention an episode of OHW, I repeatedly get astounded by the number of episodes out there. Somehow in my mind it's always the 'Todd's new other series that has couple of episodes'.
