"Imagine what these guys are going to be in 15 years"?

If it's a friendly match-up event in a families' picnic event, then I would understand, but the settings clearly show that aside from kids this is actual boxing. It's WWE-ish and not in a good way.

This sounds pretty bad. My internet is kind of shit right now, so I probably won't be able to watch the video, but 8 and 9 year olds fighting for real? That's rather high on the "things we don't want to see happening" list...

USAF: agreed. That kinda stuff is sign of a Mad Max-type society going on.

I fail to see how this is anymore dangerous than allowing a kid to take up boxing or karate.

Well, if it has good, well-enforced rules, safety rules, proper refs and such stuff, then it's just a sport. I wouldn't have a problem with it, then.

Judging by the OP's reaction, I'm assuming it doesn't have one or more of these things. If not, then I don't really have a problem with it...

I'd like sparring helmets to be available. Other than that, it's pretty much supervised roughhousing.

Parents tend to be far too competitive about such things, and if they're the supervisors I can easily see that going wrong. I would like if they at least taped their hands, too, but...

The fighting itself doesn't look much different from the grappling they do in the local school wrestling classes, though perhaps sans some protective gear. Though, in this case the atmosphere seems to be tailored to imitate something like an MMA match you might catch on television.

Nobody got hurt, both kids are volunteers and apparently like brawlin' a fair bit. The parents knew of their children's knack for wrestlin' and approved their decision to go fight. As soon as a child got slammed somewhat badly the fight was stopped. Nothing to see here, move along. cool

The Police were asked to investigate this but they knew it was happening already and deemed it safe. The problem with it as far as most people have it in the UK is that boozed up adults are paying to watch and there are near naked women everywhere.

TLDR: Police said it was ok but people dont like the enviromental settings.

Seems like, despite the controversy, the people are behind it think it's a good thing. In the end, it's a Class thing, I suspect.

Hey Green, lets not say things we can't take back. Imo, its no different from doing karate.

Edit: If you think this is the no so nice end of the British working classes then you dont know the British working classes then imo.

This isn't anything to do with class outrage. It's just brutalisation of children. They should not be learning how to beat each other up in such a way. It damages them psychologically as well as physically.

[up] Because it's the middle-class kids doing it, not Machester's working poor.

Middle Britain is all too fond of meddling in the lives of the british proletariat.

Preston isn't anywhere near Manchester but I agree with SH surprised. I think it is a class thing or the fact that there were drunken adults and near naked ladies in/near the ring

The Boys and Girls Club I went to had a similar program to this. Everyone was fine.
