This is clearly earth, IMO. They call it the blue planet in the first episode.

So after seeing the first episode I am very satisfied. The characters seem less young/moe than they seemed from the character designs and manga and Luciana and his servant guy are super hot, they totally meet my standards for stoic badass bishonens (but you'll all ways be my favorite Alex Row!). Dio seemed to have age-regressed I don't think he literally did, I think his characterization and design just shifted, which I'm not totally happy with, but I can deal. The music is really great and the animation is as good as the original. I also love that it looks like there's some kind of past between Luciana and Princess Lilly. Heck yes, romance! So yes, I'm very happy and will keep watching. None of my fears about this sequel have come true so far.

Interesting that Al is coming back. Looking forward to some scanalators hopefully getting their hands on that prequel manga. And waiting for the third chapter of the main manga too.

I think I'm going to rewatch the first episode today to clarify some things...

I'm sorry to doublepost, but I think I've found my main point of contention here.

I barely got past the halfway point of the episode because the player quit out and I didn't feel like making the effort to keep things working, but that's ok, because my issue is resolutely in the first half.

Ok, so: In the OP one of the first people we see is someone in a familiar Guild outfit. He appears to be Dio, in his costume from the original series, but looking rather disheveled (his hair is all messed up) and generally depressed or sad. Is this Dio or not?

This same person appears when the oldest princess has that flashback while waiting at the lake for the Ades people to show up. A flashback to her younger days in which she falls in front of this same Dio-like person, and some woman is standing mysteriously behind him. In the few words this fellow speaks, he sounds like Dio did in the original series, I think. Is this Dio or not?

That's what I want to know. Everyone seems to think it can't be because he's only been on Earth six months. But if not him, then who the hell is it? If it's not him, then why are they important enough to get that much time in the OP?

[up]I'm purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrty sure that's just Premier Luscinia when he was young. You'll notice he's the only one to wear an earring like that on his right ear.

It's definitely Lusciana, she might even call him that. It's not Dio, no way.

Besides, the princess sees Dio when he takes her ship's helm. If it were him, you'd think she'd have noticed.

Right. Riiighttt...ok, so why the heck was he wearing what looks like a standard young Guild member's uniform like Dio and Lucciola wore in the original series? This would seem to imply that he's Guild originally...which would maybe explain why he's got a Guild guy as his loyal assassin.

Perhaps the woman behind him in the flashback was his mother? Well anyway, this makes me want to just know more about how the Ades Federation was formed and why they're trying to conquer everything.

He has the physical features of someone from the guild as well. I agree Lusciana's origins are mysterious, I would say he is from the Guild, or of their ethnicity or whatever. I'll be interested to see what the Guild's (or their ethnic people's) relationship or presence is in this world. It doesn't appear to necessarily be the same as it was in Last Exile 1's world.

Oh yeah, further evidence it's Lusciana, He was wearing the Princess's bracelet in that last scene with his servant guy. It's the same one he picked up for her in the flashback, if I'm recalling correctly.

[up][up]I think it's that dude from the federation, who lead the attack on the pricess, was the one who is also in the flashback.

And that woman at the flashback's background... looks a lot like Dio's elder sister.

Yeah, they appear to be a lot less involved. Well, seeing as their job out in the Presters was to run things and regulate Claudia tech and everything, here on Earth they might not be as important. Or they could at present be occupied mostly with some part of the planet far from Ades and Turan.

They haven't shown themselves at all beyond the assassin guy, whose name escapes me. (Aluada or something like that?)

A note a while later, about 12:15 in episode 19 of the original series, Sicilian Defense: Boooobs...(Sophia uses cleavage to her advantage, knowing Claus is weak against such things...)

Is it nescessary to have watched the original series to watch this? I watched the first episode, and it seemed like a regular first episode with introduction of the plot and the world the caracthers live in, my concern is that there might not be some exposition about it since that might have been done in the previous series.

So far, there's little connection. I expect it to stay that way, as the first series was eight years ago and they'd be fools to expect most of the viewers to have seen/strongly remember it

You don't have to watch the first. I just think it's an excellent series and it gives you background that isn't really necessary but makes the second series so much more fun! To me, one of the great things about sequels is the simple "Look who's back!" factor.

In this case I guess I'd recommend waiting until you have some free time or until after this series is done and then going back and watching the first. The animation is worse and the plot is somewhat differently structured, but I still love it. If you like Dio, it's really neat to see how he was originally presented. He has rather a lot of backstory that of course might be revealed here, but if it's not, and you don't know anything about it, you will view him differently than if you just watch Fam with no backstory.

(late post yay!)

ya, stretching that it's the Mediterranean is much. I've done the comparisons myself and it's still, much. Even updside down, the great lake does not even remotely match the black sea or any of the Mediterranean seas.

Plus, we can't rotate the map upside down since we know that the Ades Federation is NORTH of Turan. Mainly since above Ades on the map, there is a label saying "northern countries".

That is one reason why it can't be the mediterranean. The only way it would fit in the mediterranean is if Balearic and Crete seas were filled in (which is possible since it is set in da fututre).

Watched the 2nd episode. Now we know why there were six moons, now five: It was a bunch of Exiles.

LOLZ. Animax delivers, but they censored the OP where the girls were taking a bath.

Anyway I'm guessing Alvis is a relative of the princesses since it looks like the princesses too can control Exiles.

Dio shouting "Don't shoot!" is epic.

Also the episode titles. I dunno but I think they're still chess-related?

Animation quality was all over the place. I suppose the whole series looking like the first episode was impossible, but going Off-Model this early is distressing

Wasn't it mentioned that Al was part of House Hamilton, who was mentioned offhand by Delphine as being part of the Four Guild houses in the first series? That would mean that Al herself technically IS a Guild scion (which kind of explains her new outfit in the OP), or at the very least related to them.

With this in mind, it would make sense that the nobility of Turan are either related to the guild, or at the very least used to keep a close relaqtionship with them.

...Uh...Figured I'd check here before I shoot my mouth off, but is wild speculation about what's going to happen to returning characters based on nothing but the OP frowned on? 'Cause I've got some serious wild mass guess that I'm dying to spit out.

Should've checked the list.

Delphine -"I knew Hamilton, the man who raised you, my dear. In fact, I knew him for a very long time."

Al - "You knew my grandpa?"

Dio -"She tried to kill him."

so ya, Alvis is guild.

Question! Was the Exiles the Guild's idea?

Seems like the people who are left on Earth after the Exiles left are angry they were left behind. But why did they left in the first place? Why were some left behind?

cannot compute....

It's apparently detailed in one of the supplements. The gist is Earth was totally devastated (alluded to be due to war), and everyone was force-evacuated to the Presters so that the world can recover without the interference of mankind. The timeline pegs this at around 600 years prior to the first Last Exile.

It seems increasingly possible that the people we are seeing populating Earth right now are descendants of the first wave of people allowed by the Guild to return from their Prester colony.
