I think there are a couple of Tropers who are looking for publishers right now, correct?

I'm not...yet anyways. When I get around to having a finished project (probably in the next year or so depending on several factors) then I will be.

I have to get beyond the outlining stage first. And I just went back to tweaking my magic system. Oh joy.

I'm not interested in the CDT threads. It's all just basically roleplaying, and I'm not interested in that outside of the one RP forum I'm already in.

Hmm, I'd have to agree with Freezair. I didn't realize that they are good for pimping your character in this subforum, though. I'll keep that in mind.

Just based on the performances some troper characters have put on in those threads, I'm left wanting to see more.

I didn't give any names out for a reason. If I found out that people wanted to see my stuff based on my characters' performances, I would freak the hell out and feel obligated to give them something.

I will say something, though- YA isn't my thing.

I find it hard to write YA. It's like, you can write about adult material!

Only not!

In general, I find reading other's unpublished works to be a tiring endeavor, and thus I'm often loath to do so. Selfish? Admitted. There's a lot of reluctance due to the fact that the odds of the work being the kind of thing I'd be interested in are low, and even if it sounds good, the execution is likely to disappoint.

And I hate having to tell people that I didn't like something ...

[up][up][up], [up][up]: However, YA is evolving. For example, the YA book I just read is especially bloody, with mentions of rape here and there. Another book in my queue I heard has at least one sex scene. Even one series that I like explores the vampire and rape comparison in an extremely sneaky way, and it's targeted for both the middle and high school range.

It's all in the presentation. Something that is risque yet is presented in an artistic and non-crass way can appeal to multiple audiences.

...but that's not the point of this thread.

Oh, and I have a few interests in the CDT characters. But like Crystal Glacia, I'm not saying who.

Bah, I'll just come out and say it: of all the CDT characters, I'm most interested in Glacia's and Killer Clowns'. There are others, but those come to mind first and foremost.

It looks like I'll have to pick up the slack then.

Time to put Finn into action...more. Or maybe I should focus more on the Cantina staff? I'm not confidant enough to bring in Bryan, but...

I find the CDT stuff to be very difficult, because it's hard to keep the character from going out of character in relation to a genre they're probably not designed for...

I am now known as Flyboy.

Chih: That actually proves my point. You can write about this, but you have to be sneaky about it.

If you wanna be artistic, go for it, but there is a difference between being an artist and censorship.

If you want to deal with a topic, deal with it. Don't hide behind a curtain as you do.

I like Lucky Revenant's stories. But I can never remind myself to read them.

I tend to suck at characterizing people, so I am usually out of my element in the CDT threads, since, suddenly, I'm supposed to have the same skills my characters have, and that's very very hard, if not impossible.

I actually like quite a few people here...

Apologies for the derail, but can you please explain your last sentence? It didn't really make sense - for what possible reason would writing in the Character Development Threads mean you need to have the same skills as your characters?

You could use the threads to practice and see if such is the case. And, at the same time, showcase your creations to the world.

I have a character, he is supposed to be really good at reading people. Not only a mind reader, but old school reading as well. The stuff you see in shows like Lie to Me, or the movie Jury Duty, or the Mentalist, stuff like that.

But the thing is, I can't do that. I can't read people's body language that they are not writing, and I really can't interpret it in the way they intended it to be interpreted.

So, I can't have him schmooze, because I don't know what would endear him to certain people the most, nor can I threaten, because I don't know what would sufficiently scare certain people the most.

Also, even though he's supposed to be very attractive (being able to play up whichever of his traits that a person desires, and being able to tell who likes flirting, and who doesn't) I can't use that trait either, because I can't read people's preferences either.

Because I am writing all of the characters.

I know what each and every one of them is thinking. I know what he will notice, and what he won't.

I know every character's fetish, every character's temper, every character's worry.

Once I know the traits, I get to show them off as subtly as I please, and have those add up and show up in the eyes of a guy who is trained to pick such things up.
