I just read a recent story about Westboro picketing another funeral and I know by now I should just ignore them but the thing is they are really getting to be more active protesting.I have a feeling that their more active protesting is a sign of the end times but don't really take it to heart.

I tell ya, it'd be interesting to see how many people return the favor when Fred Phelps dies.

Before I even clicked on it...

Anyway, WBC is a despicable organization, and I can't see this thread headed anywhere except towards WBC bashing.

Before you get angry I am kinda of in the I'm against homosexuality and gay marriage crowd but that's not my biggest concern in the world.

However,I think this year exposed that maybe Westboro is nothing but a scam to get money or they really are fanatics who truly believe in what they say and just used it to get money from the lawsuits that aren't won.

If's that the case then they are big time versions of Karma Houdini and Magnificent Bastards.

I'm not angry at all. your right to believe what you want. I'm just saying that these sorts of threads, IE about Westboro, don't go anywhere except towards bashing of it.

However, it is an interesting question: Was the WBC more active in the past, or was that just the impression I got because of the media coverage of the event.

There has been news surrounding since I think the 80's they really got their start in the 90's.It seems the Westboro thing used to be more of a occasional thing in the past but now its seems it's now a monthly news report on how they hit another low.

Westboro is everything I fear and I hope I don't become as a Christian and mostly because its the stop being stereotypical thing that I have with them.

All I have to say about Westboro is that I am eternally thankful they exist.

@OP: I choose to look at their increase in activity as a good thing. It means we have less time to wait before they screw up and suffer.

Fred Phelps funeral is going to be epic if it happens, but I have a feeling they'll make it a quiet and discreet ceremony, if they have a ceremony at all, just to steal that victory.

I just got this realization that even if Fred Phelps dies it means someone else is going to replace him and I have a feeling its going to be one of his sons.I think the reason they are increasing these protest is because Fred Phelps could die anyday so they want to increase ruining people's day by having more protest.

@Barkey: Don't doubt internet trolls' ability to track down what they want to find out. There's a lot of people that hate WBC.

I have noticed that hate brings people together more than love espically if they universally hate a certain group like Westboro.

And if Fred Phelps does die any time soon then it means even the KKK would be happy he is dead.I mean just this summer the KKK went to counterprotest the Westboro Church over Joplin. If the KKK hates your guts then it really indicates you have hit rock bottom morally.

Even talking about these guys is a waste of time at best.

At worst, they're actually trolls looking for $ by suing cities that don't protect their carefully constructed, just-barely-legal protests, and getting worked up about them is exactly what they want.

I haven't seen a WBC thread here all summer, and y'know what? The forum didn't suffer for it at all.

Just quit talking about them.

Look, you can't make me speak in a logical, coherent, intelligent bananna.

Oh, heavens no. Let's put them on a pedestal! Show them off to the world as a testament to the virulent bigotry and disgusting hypocrisies perpetuated by the Christian Right. Oh, we didn't have a problem you guys picketing those fags, but how dare you make us look bad by pulling that shit with God's soldiers, the ones who've died fighting a holy war—I mean, for your right to assemble.

[up][up]Kitsune@I would never in my life call any gay person a fag because it really sounds trashy and disgusting to boot. And I will not cross the line saying that they will burn in hell because that's just saying you wish their souls were damned.

I think homosexuality is a sin but like you said I will never try to be hateful towards them because they are still are people and I am just a sinner as them.Besides I am more of a anti-abortion person who would if she was rich live a middle class life style to give that money to create a house for pregnant women who are in need.

I am hoping that the troops come home soon and at a good pace.As a person of the Christian Right I will say I am sorry that you feel that I am judgemental or you feel that too many members are being too judgemental.

@77: pretty good. I especially like the part about free speech; if that asshole can get away with what he's doing, then just about any other human can voice an opinion and not suffer as well.

I essentially agree with the opinion of the gentleman who wrote that article.

Now given, I wouldn't be sad if he took two in the chest and one in the head, but if I had the ability to do anything about Mr. Phelps, I'd probably give him a microphone and some press time, perhaps make him support presidential candidates I didn't like, things like that.

So,it can be rightfully assumed that the Westboro Church are equal opportunity haters who do real life trolling. And I think Fred Phelps is now offically the real version of Frollo only without the murder and sexual lust but still just as evil.

So Nate Phelps did an IAmA about this family and growing up with them. Very nice insightful look into the family dynamics. They also enlightened me to two wonderful documentaries on the family.

What's interesting is the amount of jargon has increased within that four year period. Generally when a cult gets cut down to its core members and they all start using their own jargon things are about to either explode or implode. My guess is that once the world doesn't end they'll double down and everyone but the phelps family will leave.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

You know, I'm a bit embarrassed to see this thread suddenly pop up, especially since joyflower was uninvited quite a while back. It probably should have been locked or deleted. I'm also almost 100% sure we have another, more active WBC thread.

So, as this one violates our rules in numerous ways, I'm going to kill it off. Sorry.

Edit: As it turns out, we have no active WBC threads. So if you want to make one, start it off with a fresh OP and premise. I warn you that it is unlikely to be approved. We all know what idiots they are and it would seem kind of pointless to continue discussing it.
