No season three only just ended in July. Not that it matters since Crystal was never good to begin with.

Eh, I still love the image of Usagi doing the Monkey with maracas.

If nothing else, it's quieted a lot of the manga worship in some circles, which could get kind of obnoxious at times.

You know, the more I've thought about it, the more I think the best thing would be a Sailor Moon Kai approach. Cut some of the fluffier stuff, keep the character building scenes, remove some monsters of the weak, and recut the episodes with the occasional bit of new animation.

Of course, that's purely hypothetical and I don't expect it to happen, nor am I disappointed that it won't.

I like Crystal in its way, the 90s anime is good enough for me. It helps its not at all replacing what's come before or even in the same continuity. It's a new thing that exists, take it or leave it, but don't be a jerk about it.

I've heard it said despite being the first movie, it's typically considered the best. And does what most good filler should, fills in backstory that compliments a character without detracting.

I just got back from the movie. It's fantastically amazing!

Are we talking about the Sailor Moon Movie with the dude who looked like those two filler aliens.

Yes. They kept the characters' original names and changed the dialog; it sounded even better than the one I used to have on VHS back in the day. :)

Interestingly, Stephanie Sheh considers this the point where she could really see Usagi as Princess Serenity. The message that what makes Usagi important isn't her powers, or destiny, certainly not her work ethic, but her willingness to befriend and care about others when she sees someone who needs it. Unlike the antagonist, she cares about her friends beyond her own feelings and when it comes down to it, is willing to do whatever it takes, sacrifice herself if need be if it means keeping her loved ones safe.

And yet they can't get anything done without her (in the anime, at least).

Oh, yeah, Makoto killed that one youma on her own.

In that one part of the movie, the other four Sailor Guardians acrobatically spun through the air and landed without difficulty... while Sailor Moon unceremoniously fell on her face. XD

Pretty much.

The original series took great pains to remind us that Usagi was a massive klutz at every opportunity.

Which makes the fact that she's still the strongest member of the group, and the only one who can actually kill the monster kinda funny.

Crystal on the other hand, being more based on the original manga, has gone in the opposite direction and made the Inner Senshi rather worthless, with them being worfed at every opportunity.

A little fucking balance would have been nice.

The Inner Senshi actually were more competent in the manga than in Crystal. Even when they died, at least they tended to go down like badasses.

Ironically, they perform the best of all in the Super S arc, and Crystal stopped right before going there.

Ask and ye shall receive. Also the musical cast will have a performance at Anime Matsuri in Houston with a few cast members having their first trips to America. That's pretty awesome and one hell of a score for a con.

Hey. Guess we get to see the Dream Arc after all. I hope they make it all the way to Stars. I've only watched a few subbed eps of it, so this will feel like the first time I've really seen it.

So I've asked some variation of this before, but I'll do it again (because I can't remember how people previously responded, and I'm too lazy to search through the thread to see what was said previously):

If you could create an Sailor Moon Ultimate Universe out of the original manga/Crystal, the original anime, the live action series, and even the Sera Myu musicals, what parts would you use from each to create said series?

If there's one mistake Crystal has made, it's being too faithful to the manga. I've definitely come to recognize it's flaws as a result. But it seems to me that there's lots of material across the different mediums, and that should have been mined for a really interesting series.

They can't not adapt Stars now.
