Bumping—as I said just before, I feel like a Sugar Wiki version of this is highly redundant of Gushing About Shows You Like, but just more specific to announcements and new material. The trope needs a more indicative name, and needs a clean-up. There are a lot of wicks, but there are only 26 letters, and about 1600 examples—a mere sixty-three examples per person. And people could volunteer for more letters, requiring less people. Redlink And The Fandom Rejoiced so people stop misusing it, too.

Sugar Wikify it and do to the Main/ article what we did to This Troper.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Perhaps the original trope should be extracted and restarted with a new name and blank example list.
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere. We could re-YTTKW it, but just launching it empty would be bad.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanThis should almost definitely be moved to Sugar Wiki, but we don't need to change the definition, just clean out the gushing. It doesn't need to be more than "Yay, X has been announced", "Yay, X returned", "Yay, X Show has been renewed for a new season", etc.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything. — Talking Heads, 1977But what you suggested isn't the definition. It's specifically the fandom rejoicing after expecting things to be crap.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanA) None of those are the definition, so changing to those would constitute "changing the definition".
B) None of those would fix examples who do not deal with announcements or returns/releases/renewals like "In game X, character Y's signature moves Z now triggers combos!". The page would still have a staggering amount of incorrect wicks.
Yeah, people want to move it to sugar wiki. but under what description? What description encompasses ALL/Most the examples and doesn't leave 30% misuse (which is still too much misuse).
I didn't know that was required for it. If that's the case, what do we do with the "misused" ones? It's probably not all gushing.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything. — Talking Heads, 1977If we don't change the definition all the way to what it's decayed into, it should at least not be something specific to adaptations. It could easily be anything that makes an upcoming work look appealing when it previously didn't.
With the caveat that it had to have been part of a franchise first. But we should definitely split the currently correct examples no matter what tweaks we make.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanThe crux of the problem is that there's no single pattern to the Trope Decay. The definition hasn't decayed into anything at all... People have just looked at the title, and assumed THAT was the meaning. There's no single definition that would match ALL the misuse besides the incredibly vague, borderline untropeable "X made some* fans happy." where X can be ANYTHING. An announcement, a mechanic, a plot point, a Wham Episode, a casting, a marathon on a tv channel, what actor Y did at his wedding. I mean literally anything, no matter how petty.
Do we really need a page, even on the sugar wiki, for examples of "This pleases me" ? That's what crowning moments (Or rather the tropes formerly known as crowning moments) are already pretty much covering.

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartExcept that And The Fandom Rejoices IS used also for stuff inside games/works.

I've said it twice, but between the Crowning Moments and Gushing About Shows You Like, we have this page in Sugar Wiki form. The only thing going for this page over any of the other ones it also focuses on announcements. But I feel like having a Sugar Wiki page for that is still pretty redundant—all we'll see is "Don't you love this new announcement? Isn't it great that they rehired this actor?" And inevitably, "Every single thing."
I don't think there's anything to be gained by making this a Sugar Wiki page. I'd rather just separate the good examples, change the title, fix the wicks, and redlink And The Fandom Rejoiced to prevent misuse.

I'd be okay with , but it has a ton of inbounds, would Fast Eddie want to red link it?

Bumping this. Should I make a page action crowner?
edited 4th Jan '12 2:54:37 PM by Ghilz
I think you should make a crowner. This really has decayed into just anything that made the fanbase happy. It's a huge mess.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickMade a crowner hopefully I didn't bugger up. Feel free to add other solutions.
Bump for votes.
So what do we do if all the options are in the red including "Do nothing"?
I think Helterskelter did a pretty good job of stating my position, The decay is so widespread that anything short of cutting and redlinking it is likely to be pointless. We could try doing a wick-scrub before we take that final step, but I suspect that new bad wicks would be made almost as fast as we scrubbed old ones out.
BTW, "Move it to Sugar Wiki" is in the green.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I think if it's moved to the Sugar Wiki we can just tweak the definition to "Gushing about things that made the fandom happy."
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe other upside (I'd call it an upside) about moving to Sugar Wiki would be that we could delete most of the wicks.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Yeah, it solves the problem with the least amount of work, so it's got my vote.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!Changing the definition to 'The fandom gushes about something that made them happy' has my vote together with moving it to Sugar Wiki.
"Suffer a vicious person and you will fear vice. Suffer a virtuous one and you will soon loathe virtue itself." Tony Duvert
Crown Description:
- And The Fandom Rejoiced has been renamed once before. The new name has caused massive misuse of 80% or higher.
- The page is the subject of a lot of hyperbole. UPPERCASE, Bold text, and gushing.
I wouldn't mind it being redefined and Sugar Wikified.
