Kingpin Life Of Crime is a real stand-out of a game. I may not have played, but I have read up on it and saw You Tube clips of it. If you are curious about details, please look here.

Two things that are commonly said about it are the swearing and the violence. I can say that the game happily indulges itself in four-letter words and slurs. I can also say that the violence is pretty graphic. Then again, this game was released in 1999, and the high levels of swearing and violence were probably considered shocking at the time.

I have to say that the Player Character (he doesn't have a name, but some You Tube comments call him Thug) certainly qualifies as a Villain Protagonist. Let's see...he starts off as a small-time thug who refused to pay protection money to one of the Kingpin's lieutenants named Nikki. After getting beaten up and thrown into an alley for that, Thug decides to go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge. It starts out small at first, but then he gets a taste for the bigger stuff, and before you know it, he decides to take on the Kingpin himself. On an interesting side-note, there is a cutscene where a guy who drops Thug off at one location asks for the chump change that he was promised. Thug says that he knew there was something he forgot, and kills off the guy with his shotgun. I get the impression that the point of that scene was to remind players that Thug is not a good guy and that you should not be sympathizing with him.

Oh, yeah, and there is also the fact that at the end of the game, you fight the Kingpin and his henchwoman (girlfriend?) Blunt. Guess what? Blunt is Immune to Bullets! The programmers evidently did that so that she escapes after you kill the Kingpin, and leave a Sequel Hook. Personally, I consider that Bad Writing (or is that Bad Programming?). How about you?

Has anyone here played this game?

Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!
