I believe what happened was that Willis had a habit of edit warring on tfwiki, he gave Ethan that trait from himself, and then made himself Ethan's edit war nemesis.

He actually mentioned very early in this story line, in the comments, that there were a few strips with no Dina in them. She is still present in the scenes, though, just off screen doing something else.
