Not too sure myself, because that's my reaction. It's basically an "ohhhkay then..." comment, only a bit less unsure.

I am with AHR on that one. The event was so... sudden(?) that I am unsure what my reaction is or what it should be. "Okay then" do seem like a good way to express what I am feeling.
Yet another sudden relationship.
I've got a feeling that most of these are going to crash and burn in the very next panel (though maybe one of them ends well. Willis? ...Please?).

Well, no, I just mean it as a sudden change in relationship. if I put money on the one which is not going be 90% reversed within a strip it'd be Ethan and Joyce, that one seems to be more of a train wreck in slow motion, where as the others seems like they're gonna crash and burn quickly (but not completely).

I am ready for Billie/Ruth hate makeouts.
In the Walkyverse, Ruth was much older than Billie and Walky and babysitted the two of them growing up. In college, Ruth and Billie lived together in a house they rented with a bunch of other folks and the two briefly experimented with each other. (Said fling was a bit of a retcon, tossed in in the 1999-set, 2004-written Roomies! Redux strips.)

But, yeah, not sure how to react to this. Or where this is going, for that matter. At any rate, I am really curious to see Ruth's inner workings now.
Do we know if Ruth have any kind of friend? Someone close to her in any way or whatsoever? Because, if she doesn't have anyone, it would kinda explain her behavior toward Billie. Ruth seems to be currently a complete mess. Her father died*, she have things she would rather not talk about and she drinks until she pass out. Billie seems to be the only "relationship of sorts" Ruth managed to form since college started, so Ruth is more or less seeing Billie as a replacement for every meaningful relationship she need. Ruth needs someone, and the closest one she have is Billie.
To summarize my incoherent rambling: Due to her own internal issues, Ruth is just as confused about what their relationship is, or is supposed to be, as Billie herself.
@AHR,
I don't think context from the precious comics is much relevant, aside for the Call Backs. The characters and their relationships in this comic is exactly as we see them here, not as we had seem them elsewhere.

Certainly Willis has structured it that way, but I don't really see why curiosity about the other stuff is a bad thing.

Ah, okay. I asked a bunch of things about the Walkyverse myself, after all. It is just the way you phrased it gave me the impression you was asking for explanation based in the previous comic. Sorry my mistake.
PS:Wack'd, since you are apparently an walking encyclopedia of everything Walkyverse related(), do we know if Ruth has any other friend at all in Dumbing Of Age? I don't remember she interacting with anyone else, but I have a rather poor memory.

Well, I noticed that a lot of relationships had call backs to the previous worlds. Joyce and Walky claiming their mutual hate, the teacher havign a crush on the politician, that journalist person playing with scissors...

She's a lesbian in the other comics or something. I read it on the trope page.
And no I have not. The early art styles sorta threw me off, and I like this strip cause it seems fairly refined to me, and it makes sense given how long he's known the characters. I'm almost afraid to try any of the others.

Well, in the original canon, she had a bunch of "friends," but she was becoming unsatisfied with her lifestyle and was starting to feel like they weren't good for her.
...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.
Willis has to keep the lust-wolves fed. We'll return to our regularly-scheduled entertainment shortly.
