We have the description page MIB, which describes the trope of Men In Black. And then we have the page Men In Black, which is about the film series named after the trope, which is also commonly called MIB.

I think we should move the film to its proper namespace, and rename MIB to spell out the acronym. Good idea?

I would support that change, but if we go ahead with it, I think it would be a good idea to mention it in the Wick Namespace Migration Thread given how many wicks both versions of Men In Black have.

This makes no sense to me - Men In Black and MIB quite obviously do not share the same title, and I have yet to encounter anywhere on the wiki where the latter is used for the former. If they actually shared the name, this would be an issue, but the general TV Tropes policy is against using acronyms for works, so there shouldn't be any cases of MIB being used for Men In Black anyway.

The film should be moved to the right namespace, of course.

I'll back a name swap. The trope page, at the very least, has more than sufficient grounds to be titled Men In Black in full. The acronym, as far as I know, belongs solely to the movie franchise.

I suggest that we move Men In Black to the films namespace (whatever that is), but instead of just spelling it out we create a disambiguation page as well that comes up under both Men In Black and MIB and links to both articles.

Wait. Wasn't the work named for the term? We really should make that clear. While I maintain that tropes named after work titles should change, if the trope name came first, that's a different matter.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

The trope name is far, far older. Keep. This is what namespaces are for, after all.

The work is indeed named after the trope.

The term definitely sounds like one of those ancient terms for something.

Yeah, it dates back to at least the 1970s. Maybe earlier.

Somewhat earlier. The term first became popularized in the UFO/conspiracy theorist circles in the 1950s, IIRC.

(Though to be further pedantic, the comic was named after the trope/term, and the film was loosely based on the comic.)

I'm moving the film specific section of the Men In Black page to the Film/ namespace.

The work page already has a link to the MIB trope, so I think that will work for disambiguation.

Bump. We now have the film (and strip and so forth) in their proper namespaces. In the mainspace we still have MIB (which explains what the Men In Black are) and Men In Black, which exists only to link to other pages.

Are there any objections to just merging the two?

Having looked elsewhere on the wiki, it seems acronyms are in disfavor for any page, not just works. As such, I'd support the merge with Men In Black as the new page name, possibly leaving MIB as a redirect.

Merge under Men In Black

Merging this under Men In Black does NOT work, because Men In Black is a work page about the Men In Black media franchise as a whole.

Then we have to find a name wich is not a acronym.

[up] A franchise is not a work, though. In this case, the merge is fitting because the franchise was named after this trope.

[up]What they said. The Men In Black page on Main should be about the "Men in Black" trope, not a work franchise that's based on it.

The disambiguation can just be done at the top of the trope page, it's pretty common to have a few references like "if you were looking for <foo> go to This Page instead".

The franchise could be at Men In Black Franchise, assuming we actually have something to say about it that isn't already listed at one of its subpages. Judging by the current length of the page, we kind of don't.

Do we need a franchise page for Men In Black? Can't we just have a page for the movies, a page for the cartoon, and link them to each other? And of course the Men In Black trope page should direct people to the appropriate work page.

Bumping. We seem to all be in agreement about what to do here, but just forgot about it before we got anything done.
