Is it true that Lauren Faust is designing characters for this? I thought it was just a goofy fan project that had to rebrand after a Cease and Desist.

As the story goes, yes, it was a goofy fan project that was basically "Street Fighter meets My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". And yes, it got Hasbro's attention and the developers were given a cease and desist.

However, Lauren Faust became aware of it too and was like "hey, I kinda broke off MLP to pursue other projects, so how about I help you guys come up with original character designs for your super-unique, super-awesome fighting game and basically turn it into its own thing with its own mythos and everything?" And the developers were like "OMG, yes, yes YES!"

And the rest is history.

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure if Lauren's involvement extended to the developing of the mythos or if it was just designing the characters. But I think beyond that, I got the gist of it.

Rhyme: Check your backerkit survey. I never got an e-mail from backerkit, so I think something went wrong, but when I logged into it manually and went to rewards, the key was there at the bottom.

Regarding the NDA, since I seem to be the only one who actually read the whole thing: we are restricted from any discussion of things that haven't been publicly announced or shown by Mane Six. This means no revealing specific mechanics or assets to which we only have the knowledge because we're playing the Beta to people outside the Beta. I would very much advise deleting those posts and watching yourself in the future.

Lauren is basically the lore master and head of their PR.

That's an odd one, but if it's info gained specifically from being in the Beta, it's not something we should reveal.

BTW, there are Beta Backer forums on their main site if people are wanting to discuss impressions. It's all better put there, as well, since they'll see any feedback or concerns.

The only thing I will say then is that besides the normal beta issues I haven't had a serious bug. It plays fine.

Forgot to mention this a couple days ago, but for those who haven't been keeping up, there was an update announcement put out. Looks like they plan to lift the NDA while the beta is still going on, but they put up a laundry list of things they need to get done first. Based on my knowledge of coding, but also not really knowing the specifics of anything internal, that looks like upwards of two more months of work.

Still, once that happens, we can post whatever we want in here. I personally plan on streaming it. Expect to see a lot of Oleander if you tune in.

One week until the stated NDA lift's hard date hype. Of course, having said that, I have probably now doomed them to a catastrophic problem that will push it back. >.>

In all seriousness, though, without saying too much, the progress of the recent patches has been impressive, so I have faith that I'll totally be streaming this next Friday. Adept Oleander and noob Paprika shenanigans incoming!

Ah, that's too bad. Well, you can live vicariously through those of us in the Beta when the NDA lifts if you want. Considering what their laundry list for that looked like, if they can keep the pace, hopefully it won't be too much longer after that before the real deal is out.

Good news. Latest, greatest update makes it sound like things are on track for their stated NDA lift. The last of the stuff on that laundry list is supposed to be put in place either tonight or tomorrow (cutting it a little close there). They also promise public release before 2017 is up. Get hyped.
