The Death Note movies are quite decent.
I'm quite fond of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, which has some pretty good writing and does interesting stuff with the mythos, but it's definitely an acquired taste.
I heard that the Twentieth Century Boys are pretty good.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Some years ago, I saw the live action City Hunter movie, featuring Jackie Chan. It was diverting, but then again, I don't know the City Hunter franchise very well.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen the other examples listed under Live-Action Adaptation.
The Speed Racer movie is pretty enjoyable.
Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Off the top of my head... Yatterman, Ichi The Killer (if you don't mind explicit content), and Love My Life (yuri) were pretty good film adaptions.
If you're into drama series you might enjoy Itazura na Kiss and Hana Yori Dango.
Other than Speed Racer, none that I know of.
I was wondering...
Are there any live action adaptions of anime/manga that are worth watching?
Do anyone think that it is hypothetically possible, assuming sufficient budget, production value, good acting and writing, etc to do a quality adaptation, or at least as good as what we see to Hollywood versions of western superheroes comics?
Is the storytelling and visual style of anime and manga something that doesn't translate well into live action?
What anime/manga series do you think would make a for a good live action series, whether it be movie, TV, or TV miniseries?
What anime/manga series would be impossible to translate into live action (aside from the ones with obvious legal issues)?
