"Huh that's weird usually when I hear people whispering nonsense I'm with my relatives..." mutters Junko. "Hey guys I could be hearing it wrong but does tekeli-li mean anything to anyone here?" she either doesn't notice the rodents or doesn't really care about them, and considering her hobbies it's probably the second choice.

"I don't think so, Miss Junko," Jessie replies, then raises her arm clenched with Tammy's toward the ooze-like substance, "Unless the slime-like substance is related."

Tammy's attention, meanwhile, is diverted upon hearing the faint scraping sound. When she looks down, the cat girl sees the small rodent on Elizabeth's ankle. (Tammy rolls 6 x Will 1 = 6, barely retaining her composure.) Hissing slightly, Tammy's ears flatten back as she semi-bites her lip, knowing now will be a bad time to succumb to her cat instincts. Jessie and Junko can also feel her grip tightening along their hands as she tenses up.

"Fair enough I just hear someone whispering it." says Junko. "Oh dear..." she mutters when she feels Tammy's grip tightening. "Old instincts starting to flare up there Tammy?"

"...exit program, amen," muttered Elizabeth. Back in English, somewhat hoarsely: "Bloody rats down here! Not to worry, girls, I'm hoping that will care of them. Just...try to avoid stepping in anything squishy, okay? And if you hear any gibbering don't pay attention."

To be honest she wasn't completely sure what her summoning had grabbed onto. It was just a level-one summoning, and so would be very limited in its ability to cause harm or more importantly any messes that she would have to clean up; Elizabeth was mostly sure of that.

All of the other maids had either worked with or encountered the resident catgirl of the Manor of Darkness, so the concept of slimy minions from another dimension was not entirely new. The whispering black ooze that wept from the walls gave an impression that was markedly less... cheerful and grape flavored than the things they'd seen before, but at the moment it seemed mostly intent on the rat, which vacated the maids' vicinity post-haste, allowing them to continue on. One Test of Courage trial down! Luck rolls again! These rolls may or may not determine whether or not whatever it is comes back after dealing with the rat...

"Well better then the last couple of attempts at extermination I did. Though mine was a bit easier on the clean up." mutters Junko.

"I hope so," murmured Elizabeth, listening for he panicked squeaking of the mouse and the gibbering/slumphing of the micro-abomination-thingy in hot if slimy pursuit. It was relaxing. Mori's gonna give me hell for this, she realized, with some dismay.

Luck roll = 3.

"Ah! Y- Your grip, Miss Tammy!" Jessie exclaims.

"Oh, sorry nya," Tammy says as her grip relaxes slightly. "Yeah. Good thing the rodent took off nya," the cat girl replies to Junko with a sigh of relief, set on bringing her focus back on the hallway in front of her.

"Rodent?" Jessie asks, but quickly adds, "Oh, right," when she recalls the... turbulent relationships between cats and rodents. Turning her head to face Elizabeth, the ghost could barely notice that the maid holding her right hand is still wearing her shades. "Um... Are you sure you can see with those on, Miss Elizabeth?"

(As prompted, Tammy rolls 4 x Luck 2 = 8 while Jessie rolls 2 x Luck 2 = 4.)

"Yeah, I know it gets tough for you, that was good luck there, though somehow I get the feeling it might be a good idea to get out of here quick just in case slimy there is still feeling a bit peckish." says Junko.

This time the maids were able to go nearly ten minutes without mishap. Despite their fears, the minuscule horror from another dimension hadn't yet come back to get them and before they new it they had reached the bend in the hallway. It was still impenetrably dark, and on top of that it was a sharp, 90-degree bend, so Tammy couldn't see what was around the corner.

"Hmm? Oh, these? Well, I haven't tripped over anything yet," said Elizabeth, still distracted by the prospect of having to explain the rather unauthorized summoning to her boss. Blasting holes in doors, okay; raising corpses to get them out of the way, understandable, but pest control...well. "It took me two meetings to justify getting them. There was even Powerpoint. After that I'm not taking them off unless I have to." She took a breath when the column came to a halt. "Also, I'm pretty thoroughly lost now and I hope someone knows where we're going."

"Well, if your glasses are working as you say, Miss Elizabeth, someone must've had time to work the kinks out," Jessie replies. "My mom experimented with a prototype of... something like them when I was alive. I still remember the medics saying she was lucky to have her eyesight after they blew out on her."

Meanwhile, Tammy is hesitant on turning the corner as, when she ran in Spyhold Manor, that was how she usually ran into Hitsugi. "Let me check first, Junko," Tammy advises. "If there's an ambush, I should be able to dodge it nya," the cat girl adds, forgetting that holding onto the other maids' hands will hinder that ability as she peers her head past the wall to look beyond the corner.

And so Tammy poked her head around the corner... and lo, was there light! It was like a switch had been flipped; one moment she was surrounded in total darkness and the next it was as bright as day. It was a jarring enough transition that the catgirl was blinded for a moment, causing her to reel back and stumble. No, nobody else can see the light, but anyone who is holding part of Tammy can feel her jump, stumble, and then start to fall.

"Sorry, Junko. The light startled me nya," Tammy says, nodding her head in the direction she looked down. Jessie looks down that corridor, then asks, "Um... What light?"

"It must be a ways off for you nya," Tammy tries to explain. "Please allow my eyes to adjust so I can make sure what it's about nya," the cat girl adds as she leads the others around the corner, squinting and blinking her eyes as they adjust to the greater amount of light that she can notice.

At the end of the line Elizabeth could only look around in puzzlement; she couldn't distinguish the difference between "pitch black" and "moonless midnight under the earth", but maybe that was just her. "Everyone all right?" she asked, adding to the commotion. "Ms. Tammy, do you see anything?"

When Tammy pulled the rest of the maids around the corner it was a shocking difference to say the least. Only Elizabeth, with her sunglasses, was able to keep from blinking blearily against the sudden glare, so she was the first to make out the long windowed corridor that lay before them. All along the left side of the hall panes of glass at regular intervals seemed to look out on a grassy courtyard, and the position of the sun seemed to indicate midday. Meanwhile, the right side of the hall was adorned by sliding doors at rather larger intervals, all the way to the bend at the other end. Cunning rolls.

The sunglasses helped, but Elizabeth was still somewhat startled by how suddenly the darkness ended. Also the realization that it wasn't actually nighttime—had she only spent a morning down there?

Junko scratches her head looking a bit confused "Say guys, is anybody else getting a feeling like the hallway's kind of repeating itself here or have my meds kicks in?"

(Tammy rolls 1 x Cunning 2 = 2. Jessie rolls 6 x Cunning 2 = 12, taking 2 Stress.) Tammy is too focused on what's ahead to notice the path behind her, but Jessie looks back upon hearing Junko's question. "Terrible," the ghost says on seeing a similar pattern behind them as is in front. "Could this be another trap?"

As the shock of sudden illumination faded and the maids took stock of their situation they started to notice that other things had changed. Most strikingly, the hallway wasn't quite silent anymore. It as still apparently empty aside from them, but they could all hear a faint, indistinct murmur- like distant voices, though they couldn't really tell where it was coming from or make out any specific words.
