Despite linking from one another, there's really nothing separating from them...?

It appears to be speaking of non-animals but actual sentient characters at first.

In that case, it needs a rename and cleanup.

EDIT: In fact, according to trope descriptions, there is no possible way you could confuse these at all. One talks about how you make pokemon by combining stuff right off the bat, before it exists in the world, the other is about existing established characters being forced to cohabit in the same body.

It should really specify that Biological Mash Up involves two different, sentient creatures. I guess I was confused because of the links towards the two tropes were just slapped on there without giving any form of differentiation.

I'm still pretty sure we need to cleanup and possibly rename this trope, as it's counterintuitive.

I think Night described the difference between Mix-and-Match Critters and Biological Mashup well. I feel like it is also worth noting that Biological Mashup is a subtrope of Fusion Dance, something very different from the tropes related to Mix-and-Match Critters.

As for renaming Biological Mashup, I am not sure about that. I guess part of the issue I see is coming up with a better name that is not too lengthy.
