Surprisingly, one F-Zero track wasn't enough for Mario Kart 8.

And music.

So, does this restore hope or drive it into the ground? I guess it could be the latter considering they're putting in a lot of F-Zero just because it happens to be another racing franchise from Nintendo.

I don't really know how to feel

I really really want to believe this is like a hint or a teaser or at least a toe in the water

But I also fear it's just trying to placate F-Zero fans for a dead decade.

I sure said that!

I was watching Robot Chicken and I saw a parody of one of those monster truck commercials and now I really want a commercial for an F-Zero race, in-universe, that sounds like this.

So apparently people have been being pushy with Alex Ward (head of Criterion when Nintendo made the pitch) about how Criterion rejected a pitch to do an F-Zero game from Nintendo and he kinda provided more details on why it didn't happen.

Basically, Ward didn't want Criterionto work as a contractor on a project he didn't personally care about.

It's not F-Zero, but it's close.

Remember the F-Zero Legend of Falcon anime that came out years ago? The first 13 episodes were dubbed into English by 4kids. However a pair of subbers went and added subtitles to the Japaense version of the show. Watch it all here. Just make sure you have subtitles turned on.

You know what? I think it's a good thing that Nintendo EPD isn't putting out a new F-Zero game right now.

Considering A: The backlash that Star Fox Zero is getting over its controls, B: Miyamoto saying that he wants new controls for F-Zero, and C: Miyamoto's unwillingness to hand it over to a third party again. I'd rather wait than have F-Zero be killed by unnecessarily complicated controls.

There actually was going to be an F-Zero game by the Burnout developers. Unfortunately they had other plans, so nothing ever came of it.

[up]NoE probably went behind Miyamoto's back to propose to Criterion.

EDIT: Double post glitch, and I can't fix it.

I'm still inclined to think F-Zero can't quite die for good, even if it goes dormant for ages, and there's exactly one reason- People will always wanna know what Captain Falcon's games were about thanks to Smash.

I sure said that!

[up]Not to mention that Mario Kart has gotten in on the crossover action, and since the F-Zero courses are pretty popular, even it will stay in the racing business forever, if only in spirit.

The game? It's... Alright?

The really good F-Zeros are X and GX- Those two alone were some of the best racers ever made. GP Legend was okay enough, it just suffered from being on a system that could only handle flat tracks.

Formula one is abut cars with combustion engines that drive wheels. F-Zero is about cars that hover off the ground due to a G-Diffusor system with propulsionn being provided by plasma engines. But in between the two we have the F-Max grand prix. Is there a natural midpoint between these two systems that the F-Max cars could conceivably use?

People will always wanna know what Captain Falcon's games were about thanks to Smash.

That didn't help Lucas, ROB, and the Ice Climbers.

Oh, super old comment. That's what you get for a dormant franchise.

It would be kind of interesting to see an Ice Climber with maybe Super Mario Bros type power ups that give them abilities similar to Super Smash Bros, but Ice Climber was never a series to begin with, unless you count its spiritual successor, the Game & Watch Climber.

F Zero has three games, a cartoon show and tie in games to that show, so there is a stronger argument for more games there. On the other hand, given that there is so much F Zero content already if it never does get another game the series still did pretty well.

As for Captain Falcon as a mascot, that's hardly surprising to me. Star Fox, staring a Golden Fox backed up by a Blue Falcon? Battle Clash, where you control a blue standing tank named Falcon? Those two are just off the top of my head but I'm sure there were more references.

Given Super Smash Bros sequels don't seem to be in the cards, and I don't begrudge that, it might actually be worth Nintendo's wile to get some third parties on some more old properties. Balloon Fight, Balloon Kid, Battle Clash, Ice Climber, Mole Mania, Wave Race, 1080, Kabuki Quantum Fighter(since they're intent on continuing to work with Team Ninja despite the under performance of that first outing), Arcana(since they're intent on continuing to work with Atlus after the under performance of that outing), Air Fortress...

Yeah, Star Fox didn't workout, but Sin And Punishment wasn't beaten up quite as badly while Excite(another racing game) and Punch Out were fairly well received. If F Zero isn't on that list that's fine. I'm guessing it'd just hit the point where pretty much everything else has been done and, thinking that over, finally come up with an idea for a first party F Zero outing. That would waiting awhile, it may depend on just how well the two Metroid projects do(I have bought "Samus Returns") but Nintendo is trying to get the third party, which by and large abandoned them after the Super Nintendo, back on their side with New 3DS and Switch. If Metroid works, that'd be about 4 out 5 cases doing well enough without even counting first party revivals like Kid Icarus, which might see the door opened on more old school titles.

(And then will come shouts of NEW IPs! But as long as they occasionally push out something like Splatoon or ARMS I think they will be okay there too)

I'd like to see a Mach Rider reboot. That seems like it would be super fun.

Is that because Super Smash Bros Melee used the Mach Rider theme on the big blue stage? I wouldn't mind a Switch take on Mach Rider either, although I'm not sure there's enough there too "reboot".

"Earth has been invaded by evil forces. You are the Mach Rider.'' *funky music plays to weaponized motor cycle game play*

New enemies, roads, hazards and tricks for the Rider to perform, I'm all for those, but aside from maybe some cinematic stuff for select screens and endings I really don't think much beyond that basic setup is needed. F Zero had characters, something of a defined setting, a graspable premise, stuff that was asking for the expansion seen in X and GX. The most I'd do with Mach Rider is maybe "justify" the unlimited ammo and Pulling Them Selves Together, but likely I wouldn't even go that far.

What kind of coffee does Captain Falcon drink? I mean, in Falcon Densetsu he ran a cafe and served coffee to Ryu/Rick, among other characters. He must drink the stuff. Does anyone know what his coffee preference is?

You bumped the thread after a month to ask a question about coffee? I thought a game got announced or something.

Does Captain Falcon bounty hunt via racing or is it entirely offscreen?

[up]If the anime was any indication, he's kinda like if Batman also spent a significant amount of his time racing in addition to crimefighting while in costume, and then using his winnings to help fund whatever causes he feels are worthy of supporting, taking down criminals, etc. I recall his civilian persona being the owner of a small soda-pop bar - or maybe an actual bar. I dunno, you know how ridiculous 4-Kids was when it came to censoring stuff.
