Budgets basically require a supermajority to pass. This basically turns them into corruption-filled zones. Combine that with term limits and it's a disaster.
Democracy is the process in which we determine the government that we deserveIn the city, it is.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...Barkey's post makes me glad I live in Texas. For all its problems, we tend to weather financial problems comparatively better than the rest, and cost of living is currently tolerable.
Seriously, with all the financial issues I sometimes wonder why so many people want to go there. What's the draw?
Oiy Vey.
Studio apartments in Detroit (HA!) were 465 a month XD
Your cost of living is low because your aggregate wages are absolutely terrible. And vice versa, I suppose.

Liberalism and the cultural melting pot stuff I mentioned earlier.
Some crap about our national parks. We've got Hollywood I guess? West Hollywood's a very nice place to live. The Russian Jew community there is very nice.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan Chah^^^ The weather?

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...Oh yeah that too. Weather is nice here.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahEh, I'll take the Johnson Space Center and Dallas's museums over Hollywood. Plus a great music scene.
Edit: Uh... Texas weather is hit and miss... Basically, be prepared for it be both hot and muggy. Even when you haven't had rain in several months.

FUCKING HOT. REALLY FUCKING HOT. Fuck you son. My windy season will start soon, but till then bleh.
Please. As I recall, they used to switch the colors every presidential election until a particularly heated one burned the colors into the public consciousness.
California is a pretty big state, and quite diverse. It has both San Francisco yet also voted to outlaw gay marriage. Honestly, I feel kind of sorry for the conservatives living there since their rather large population gets completely eaten up by the electoral college system. There's also sort of a cultural rift between NorCal and SoCal, although it's less clear to me how to characterize that.
Also, I grew up in Berkeley and went to college there, so I'd rather it not sink into the sea. All else aside, it's got the best weather ever * . The university students are much less liberal and activist than the stereotypes imply, which kind of makes sense given that the stereotypes were formed a generation ago. And its reputation as a decent school attracts a lot of foreigners and out-of-state students, which further diversifies its politics. I know this because as a native I hate them. Damned college students, always ruining everything.
You haven't been to west hollywood much, have you?
It's one of the biggest shitholes in the entire United States... My dads partner used to work vice there. Everytime I've been there my opinion of humanity has dropped.
Meh, people talk about the liberalism being a huge draw for them. Being a centrist, this doesn't really do anything for me. If they would just have some non-retarded gun regulation that didn't consist of "OMG IT'S SCARY AND MADE OF BLACK PLASTIC, BAN IT, BAN IT!" then I would bitch a lot less about Commiefornia.
All I can say is that I have been to Berkely for a summer program. It was big;too big for my tast. But the community and atmosphere was great and diverse. The People's Park was full of homeless people but they were harmless.I got to say that Berkely had a lot of diverese resteraunts and great places to shop at.Also the Berkley University Cafeteria had great food.

There's also immigration, the fact that minimum wage isn't adequate, and the people who live here.
Meaning the dumbasses who love to riot and protest over every little thing.
There are three 'e's in Berkeley. And you kept missing different ones.
Oh wow, that word looks super-weird now that I stare at it. What the hell? Berkeley?

The minimum wage isn't adequate anywhere in the country. You have to move to Canada to get a decent minimum wage (and even there it's not adequate in a lot of places).
Big? Berkeley is tiny. Try Stanford or UC Santa Cruz.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...I lived there for three years Barkey and would walk about at night. Though admittedly I never traveled very far out of my general little area. Most of the people around me were elderly Russians.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahI'd rather Berkeley not sink into the sea because my uncle lives there. I'm rather fond of him.
You could always visit Alcatraz or Pier 39 in San Fransico.Believe you would tons of fun on Pier 39,you gotta also stop at this place called Chocolate Heaven which by its name is the grand shrine to chocolate.
Tourists.
Must have been a little insulated neighborhood then.. Most of west hollywood is a slum filled with drug dealers and trannies.
And this one really good hookah bar.

What's wrong with trannies? <Starts flame more: thread is locked>
Tomu@Some men do not look good in a dress and I should know I went to Vegas and saw a fat guy in a tube top and booty shorts.Squirk
If you want to go to the nicer parts of California I would recomend San Jose.
How much for a studio apartment? 4 figures?
