"That's probably one the few things I don't like about the '89 film, it needed an origin story. One that explained how the heck he got those gadgets, or why he chose to dress up as a Bat. Even if it was just a few snippets, that'd be acceptable, but just showing two guys die by a mugger who just happened to be named Jack, really?"

To me Burton's Batman handled the origin pretty well. I don't think anyone needs to know where he gets all the gadgets. Even though in one sense Batman Begins is a better movie, because it's more focused, I think it tried to explain too much.

Why does it need to have an origin story? Especially after the popularity of The Dark Knight, Batman's origin story is fairly familiar to people who would be inclined to see further Batman movies: Kid is scared of bats, his family are ridiculously rich, his parents are shot by a robber, he grows up and decides to fight crime and dress up as a bat to scare criminals.

Just like Spiderman's is fairly familiar: Kid gets bitten by spider, gets spider powers, his uncle is shot by a criminal, he decides to fight crime.

These things really don't need to be rehashed every few movies. I'd rather watch Spiderman and Batman as superheroes than watch them as kids or angsty teenagers.

Because it's a new setting, even if it is the same general story. Especially with Spiderman - the new Spiderman continuity looks to be extremely different than the last one, and expecting his Raimiverse origin to copypaste on is dissonant and unwise at best.

Maybe there could just be a summary? Then move on, and have a whole new plot to go to.
