I know enough to know that some of the stuff that happens in Israel is pretty much considered pretty dickish by a modern, first world nation standard. *

But I'm with Tongpu in that I'd really need to see a concrete "The Talmud teaches outdated view X that results in horrible atrocity Y" for me to view it as a threat over all the other atrocities people have committed because someone gave them an ideology to abuse.

Look, if you read the Talmud and you want to edit our page on it, just do it. Don't make weird, obscure OTC threads fretting about how you will be shut down by the Zionist Thought Police or whatever the hell you're doing.

From what little experience I have with the Talmud, I am strongly inclined to believe that the OP hasn't actually read it. You just don't walk away from tomes and tomes of religious commentary and argument thinking that anything, much less something so straightforwardly and specifically bigoted, is set in stone.

And better than thy stroke; why swellest thou then?

Alrune: You asked "Why are the Bible and Quran pages so big and controversial, and the Talmud page so small and uncontroversial?"

That question has been answered several times over: "Because more people have at least a passing familiarity with the Bible, and lots of people think they know what the Quran says, and they are willing to argue about it. Very few people know anything about the Talmud, and fewer still have read any part of it, let alone the whole thing."

If the Talmud page becomes an edit war, it will almost certainly be locked.

And the people responsible will probably be banned.

Other than that, well, I don't see a problem. Edit away! Just don't get into a war.

Thread-Hop:

OP, this isn't a wiki about religion, so if anything keeping that sort of mention to a minimum just helps to keep people on-track.

If you want to have heated debates about religion constantly, this isn't really a community geared towards that, and it's also one that is dominated by and large by atheists/agnostics/nonpracticing secularist types.

I know that and it would have been perfectly satisfactory if people hadn't derailed the thread into "Anti-Semitism is wrong and you are bigoted for having dared to utter the word 'Jew'". We can no longer have a discussion about such topics WITHOUT some people jumping on you and calling you names.

You don't understand. I have no intention to edit the Talmud page. I'm just here to discuss.

I don't want "heated debates" or any other thing like this. I just want to get information, and get people's opinions. That is all. Yes, I may speak my mind and say things that people find offensive but I don't mean to insult. I just want to have different views and corrections if needed. I'm dead serious.

Anti-Semitism is wrong and you are bigoted for having dared to utter the word 'Jew'

The only reason anyone is heading in that direction is that you're so vague and quick to take offense that it's the only way people can understand this thread.

Alrune, you are the one who started saying that there was some sort of pro-Jewish bias shown by the lack of bickering on the page for the Talmud. You are the one who started tangenting off on how horrible some of the things the Talmud says are. ''You are the one who keeps dragging Zionism into it.

Your question has been answered. The rest of it was a thin excuse to rant. I'm locking this thread.
