Welcome to the Midgard-verse, a universe in many ways similar to ours.

The story take place on the Swedish West Coast and is written by me (with some help from my loyal Aussie, Zolnier...)

Erik is a happy 12 year boy. Sure, mommy might be a bit mentaly unstable at times, and she have problem both keeping jobs and the masquerade because of that, but she do love him, that's what important.

His mom is a Fae and Erik himself is a half-Fae, the result of a unknown Human one night stand 13 years ago... Erik love to dream about who dad might be... ...Maybe it is even his great hero, The Baron?

In another end of town, in the suburbs, lives 12 year Joel a happy normal muggle life with his parents. Things is starting to going wierd for him though... He sometimes, in the corner of the eye, see another face than his in the mirror. He sees things that definately wasn't there before and that dissapear just as fast.

One night is mom having a crazy-fit that is worse than normal. She rants about how much she hates Erik, that she should never have exchanged her own wonderful baby for a worthless human brat like him. A devastated Erik run away as "mom" colapses exhausted on the floor.

At the same time is Joel brushing his teeth as he suddenly notices the boy in the mirror do not look in the least as him... The kid is not even human...

Touching his face reveals the same facial features as the reflecton. He returns to normal, but scared that he is slowly turning into... ...something is Joel running of into the night so he will not harm his parents.

I need help with will happen to these kids as they run away out into the dark. I have a few ideas, but...

What makes the Fae not human-looking...

It depend on what kind of Fae you are asking for, since there are dozens of sub-spieces of them... From the almost human-looking Fae (pointy ears, pronounced cheek-bones and wierd eyes) that Joel are, to the half human-half animals like Selkies and Kitsune to those permanently in animal-shape like the Fairy Hounds and Kellas Cats.

On top of that, don't forget that the classical little faires of modern bedtime stories exist as well.

I think Zolnier was asking, "What features make Erik and Joel look nonhuman?" In other words, would normal people think they're human but with exotic traits? Will they notice immediately that Erik is not human and that Joel is, or vice versa? Pointed ears aren't so strange these days, you can get plastic surgery for them.

How people react to your characters will affect where they can go and what they can do. If one looks like a monster, most people will not help him, may even try to kill him.

Under World. It rocks!

Midgard as in Norse mythology? I didn't know there were fae in Norse mythology, but I also don't know anything else about it except what I learned from Marvel's Thor (and even then, it was just the movie).

Please for the love of God tell me that his biological father isn't the Baron. I mean seriously.

Joel's reaction (that is, running away to protect his parents) is startlingly mature, for a twelve year old. It seems more probable that they told him to get out of the house.

Is the ending of your story that the kids are switched, and Joel is actually Fae, and Erik is a muggle, and they trade parents and live happily ever after? Because that seems a bit... predictable.

It is not the Baron that is the daddy, don't you worry. I'm not that stupid...

You might be right about Joel's reaction being too mature. How to solve this?

You are both right and wrong about the ending. Isn't the title a spoiler...tongue

Midgard-verse is my own invention. (Not the name, tough...)

I have no Idea for how to describe the nonhumanity of Elves and Fae well...

[up] Good, that would've been awful.

I told you. Quoth I, It seems more probable that they told him to get out of the house.

If I were you, I'd figure out a new name for the 'Midgard-verse', to avoid confusion. Unless, of course, it's important to the/a story.

Give it a shot.

The: "Get out of the house you freak!" might mess up what little I have of a plot have, but I have started to think on some other, plausible ideas than "Must protect family"...

Midgard-verse is only known under that name to those and those that help me with the stories set in TheVerse. The world is known in universe as Earth... (The Baron being the hero in several of these stories.)

What about never really describing the non-humans, exept for a word here and there about their oddness.

Some children are mature for their age, it's not to strange that Erik would run away.

I think he meant Joel being mature by runing away...

Given his background would it not be too hard to handwave it tough, but I think he'll be on the run for another reason...
