@Occono:
I don't know about what HMV stores you have in your area, but in mine (Mississauga, Ontario), the biggest store in my city recently downgraded its store space by more than half. It used to carry pretty much everything under the sun (although if it wasn't one of the sale items, it was exorbitantly expensive), but they've apparently scaled their stock way back. Don't know if it means anything, but there you go.
As for Gamestop, I'm glad we don't have them in Canada.
Crazy: But we do have EB Games, which is owned by Gamestop.
ᐅᖃᐅᓯᖅ ᐊᑕᐅᓯᖅ ᓈᒻᒪᔪᐃᑦᑐᖅ^Same stuff that GS has, just no used games.
Ah, ok cool. Only I doubt the guy at the PX will be pushing Game Informer or preorders on me, which will be nice.
I love that whole spiel they give you every time you go in there. "Only $15 a year for Game Informer!" When I went in the other day to pre-order Warhammer 40000 Space Marine, I politely listened to the whole little speech only to respond with "No thank you." I almost felt bad for the guy. Almost.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!@ Crazy. I think the HMV you're talking about is different to the HMV me and Occo are talking about.
Is the logo "HMV" in pink/purple?
So I just preorded my copy W 40 K from Gamestop and now I'm wondering...are they going to open my game? The reason I say this is because the last time O bought something there(Bad Company2) the wrapping was already off the case.
I know they're trying to stop people from getting sticky fingers and stealing shit, but this it outrageous.
Fuckin GS.

The only reason I buy at gamestop is the local one's manager is a buddy of mine.
though now that I'm at college in another town I get most of my gaming from the Hastings in said town.
Huh. I always went to the local chain game/CD store, where a lot of their inventory is used...
And the bookstore at the mall got replaced by a BAM, which also sells mostly used items...
And the mall is now full of craft consignment stores instead of normal stores...
WTF happened to my mall?!
Hipsters.
HMV- store with black signs with pink/purple lettering. Their symbol is "His Master's Voice"- the image of a terrier listening to his owner's voice on a grammophone.
I know that HMV is in trouble, but I don't think it's a" use your vouchers up now" situation. Because it's a recession, and a lot of buisnesses are having problems. Also, at least to my knowledge, anything (Edit: at least large chains) that have closed down already have given a good amount of forewarning.

Am I a good man or a bad man?Really? I thought it was due to a suck economy (people cannot afford to buy new things and are selling their old stuff, and people are having such trouble finding jobs that they've resorted to selling kindergarten arts and crafts as income), but you may have a point.
If HMV closes... defaction will hit the air distributor.
They're one of the last media-retail giants in the nation, and bizzarely, The Economist says that it wouldn't bode well for the UK music industry, nor indie retailers.
I haven't shopped at a Gamestop ever since I walked in and asked about a PC game(at the time they actually HAD PC games, just a pitiful selection) and the manager said "PC is a bad word here."
Fuck Gamestop, I do occasionally buy games for my 360, but I only buy them at the PX on base now, cheaper anyway, and PC is not a bad word there as they have a good selection of PC games.
I got Human Revolution on Steam, and I'll be getting Space Marine at the PX and not at Gamestop. I want Electronics Etc back, they rocked.
@Barkey:
1) You're getting it for 360 too?
2) The PX is like 30min away from me dude.

I haven't personally had a problem with any of my local Gamestops. the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the games are in good condition, the prices are meh, and I like Game Informer. For PC games, I go to Steam or Best Buy. This really sounds a lot like different chains being managed by dicks and others being managed by reasonable people. :/
But I do miss EB games.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryYou guys are all lucky to have other video game stores that sell stuff from older consoles and the like. I live on the east side of Orlando, Florida (in the US) where all I have are Best Buy, Super Target, maybe Wal-Mart (which all pretty much just sell the newest/most mainstream games only) and Game Stop.
No Kino, only for PC.
Thankfully, I live across the street from a major navy base.
@Barkey: Damn...when did GS stop selling PC games?
They still do, it just depends on which one you go into.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryAnd the ones they do have are usually shit and outdated.
There goes any chance of buying Dreamcast games.
Uggh, there isn't anything I want right now, and I'm in a bad mood lately about having wasted money, I don't want to buy any new videogames for the forseeable future....I google it and it looks like they're shifting to a technology store, it's a big change happening soon. So maybe I have time.
