Could there ever be a North American Bloc?

So I've been wondering about this recently, would it be possible? Would it be worth it? What would it look like? Something similar to the EU model or something else?

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

Murca is too nationalist for it to happen. Canada wouldn't want to be associated with its brother, and Mexico has too many problems to care. Canada is more likely to join the EU than it is a local bloc.

[up][up]I wouldn't say never ever going to happen, dude. We have no idea what will change withing the next fifty years. It obviously can't happen with things as it is now, but we can't know for sure it won't happen.

Canada kind of can't help being involved, considering we're the obnoxious next door neighbor. I think helps considerably that our two countries haven't been at war at any time since 1812. Given that we share a border, that seems like an accomplishment. *shrug* Mexico needs to get its shit in order; something like a North American Bloc would probably help them in the economic sense. But that would also require that American right wingers let go of the paranoia regarding illegal immigration. We already have NAFTA, which as I see it is an acknowledgement that we will all benefit from working together. (Whether or not it is fair or if it does what was intended is another discussion.)

From my understanding of just how difficult it was to put together the EU despite the presence of many nations that were comparatively eager to join a bloc, I simply don't see one in North America occurring in our lifetime.

BTW, the names "Inner Six" and "Outer Seven" sound very bad-ass to me in a Sci-Fi sort of way.

There's no way an American Union (AU) is gonna happen given the current geopolitical makeup.

At the moment we don't need it either owing to various trade organizations and agreements like the OAS, NAFTA and more.

The only real way an AU is going to emerge is if either America or Brazil decides it wants to unify the American continents by force. (And of the American continents, only those two nations have the economic and military power to do so.)

The acronym AU is already taken by the African Union, so it'd have to be "North American Union (NAU)" or, if both Americas join, "The Union of the Americas (UA)" or something like that.

First they get South America, then move against Central America and the Caribbean, wait a bit to build up sufficient force then strike North America.

Granted, even in their best case scenario of holding all territory from Mexico south, they probably could not possibly defeat the US military.

What "best case scenario?" The whole Navy and Air Force breaks down?

^ Their best case scenario. As in we aren't giving a damn because somebody like you has put the US on an isolationist track.

That sounds more like conquering than unifing, and i dont see Brazil steamrolling South America.

Besides South America technically has the UNASUR,so, unless that falls apart (which, woulnd´t be surprising, i dont have much faith in that "organization")there´s no need to conquer South America to "unify" it.

It isn't nessacary. There are only 3 countries in North America, and between NATO, NORAD, and NAFTA, we pretty much are in a Bloc already.

There wont be a North American Bloc because the average citizen would paranoid about losing freedoms they might allready lost or they would then have to acknowledge that state rights mean fuck all.

[up]We already are in a bloc. When there ar eonly two countries in it, there aren't a lot of extra regulation needed.

I could see it loosening immigration rules between the Bloc countries so you don't need to wait a full decade and spend 10,000 bucks to be a citizen.

No. There are precisely three first-world countries in the Americas. The U.N. has what, 15 or so? None of the other countries have enough of a government to join a bloc, it would end up more as a club with a 'No Poor People Allowed' sign stapled to the door.
