That pitch wasn't supposed to be a Satam Remake, it just takes heavy inspiration from Satam in a lot of ways.

Right, yeah I forgot. The pitch was "I want to remake SATAM, but without the SATAM characters," and this is more "I want to remake SATAM, but with the SATAM characters."

Given that Sega outright forced the comics to cut out much of the post-apocalyptic stuff years ago, neither is likely to happen any time soon, and this newest thing is likely to attract a lawsuit.

I've actually recently started, Just for Fun, making up a new Sonic cartoon that's basically Avatar: The Sonic series. Basically a Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon that takes a lot of its continuity into account and in addition to having gags is also a lot more dramatic, Avatar-style.

Sounds like a dope HBO show waiting to get made.

Seriously, if you know any billionaire friends, then perhaps pitch it to Sega, find a studio willing to make it, find a streaming service/network looking for such fare. You never know.

I'm just making the "bible" for it now, but it does involve a lot of stuff from the Archie comics anyway (Enerjak as a season villain among other things) so I doubt it'd get approved even if I did have the balls to pitch it at Sega and expect them to give it a fair shake instead of tossing it out without looking at it. XD

I've got a pilot myself for a series that's basically an adventure series (no pun intended) that runs through the games' various plots and eras across several seasons.

[up][up]I hope your series contains Antoine and Bunnie as a couple, they were great together, especially under Ian's pen.

Am I the only one who thought Antoine and Bunnie were kind of dull together? They were pretty much Sickeningly Sweethearts but without any of the intentional humour about it (which you'd think they'd do given their comedic traits beforehand).

I get wanting Antoine to develop and be more competent, but I feel like he never should have lost his delusions of grandeur just to be 'Bunnie's spouse'. It's the same as with Sonic, it's just not him without that hubris.

I dunno, I liked them better together. They were hilarious and sweet in the Tails Adventure arc. Maybe it helps that I've been in a long term relationship for 10 years, so it was nice to see a drama free loving couple in Archie Sonic.

[up]I don't mind a lack of soap opera drama between them, but I dunno, I just found them kinda dull and sickly sweet. If they'd played their lovey dovey nature to a humourless level it could have fit (maybe Sonic and co gagging or feeling a bit uncomfortable in the background), but I always felt like the comics sapped the Satam Freedom Fighters of their quirkiness. They always felt so dry and normal against the SEGA cast.

I'd say Antoine got more serious as a result of character development, but Bunnie and Rotor never really changed much between the show and comics.

[up]Maybe it's because my favourite episode of Satam was the pilot and I liked how dorky and loveable Rotor was in that one. Admittedly they kinda downplayed the geeky bungling inventor aspect of him even during the show.

I dunno it felt like the show otherwise got more fun with the character quirks, or at least undermining them more often. I mean Sally is still kind of no nonsense stuck up character in the comics, but it felt like the show made fun of her pomposity a bit more while the comics don't even like admitting she HAS an ego, even when they tried to present her as a more flawed character, which makes a large different into how that characteristic shines through. She felt blander and more enabled.

Which characters originating from Sonic cartoons would you like to see appear in modern Sonic media? (Other than the Freedom Fighters)

I'd say Scratch and Grounder would be fun to see again, even if their roles are basically taken over by Orbot and Cubot now.

It looks like Tangle and Whisper might be open territory given they appear in Sonic Dash now. I haven't read much of the new comics though it's interesting they keep dipping their toe into alternate medias recently (Sticks got a similar promotional run when Boom was being aired).

I'd say Sticks, but with an asterisk. I really like Sticks, but I can't really think of a good place to put her in the games' dynamic. Sonic Boom was built from the ground up as a team game with everyone reimagined with a team dynamic that the mainline games... don't have.

I think that's the downside to questions like that. Sonic is full of supporting characters that the series already barely knows what to do with. I'd love to see X or Y character make the jump, but I dunno if Sonic Team would even use them well.

It's part of the reason I'm wary of them using the Satam/Archie characters. I like their potential, but not even Satam/Archie themselves used them well a lot of the time, the games stand even less of a chance, and even worse if they screwed them up they'd be the "official" version everyone else would have to follow from now on.

Generally the characters I think stand most of a chance translating well are the ones more based on character quirks than actual story and background, likely why Sticks could appear in a few non-Boom games without much problem. You don't need a lot of establishment and lore to make her work, just make sure she's a crazy wild girl and you've got the core of her down.

Aside from the freedom fighters, I got nothing. Adventures basically had no recurring cast outside of Mama Robotnik, X's cast is Eggman sidekicks and humans I don't like, and Boom's cast only works for a stationary setup.

[up]Adventures DID have recurring characters, just not a lot of them were memorable or had a lot of agency besides the main badniks, they were usually just one note caricatures for Sonic and Tails to save. I feel like Satam is similar really (just replace Tails with Sally and the badniks with Snively), just the comics and general furry fandom keeps the likes of Lupe remembered more often than say, Professor Von Schlemer.

I wouldn't mind if the Mean Bean Machine robots made a cameo in some form though.

SATAM was Darker and Edgier and thus superficially "deeper," causing the fanbase to latch onto its characters as "better" than the alternative.

Imo, the SATAM characters are even harder to incorporate into the main games than anyone else. With most Canon Immigrant possibilities, it's more a question of "what would this character do that another character isn't technically already supposed to?" With the SATAM cast, it's instead "the basic concept around which these characters are built is largely incompatible with the games' canon."

Though you're much less likely to see Canon Immigrant characters in Japanese series in the first place, especially of the character originated from a non-Japanese adaptation.

It's less that you couldn't introduce the freedom fighters, and moreso that you couldn't introduce the freedom fighters and have them act exactly as they did in Satam and Archie, because game Sonic and friends aren't soldiers.

That's also why I think the boom cast wouldn't work in the games, but like in reverse.

Yeah, cuz the Boom cast is a bunch of goofballs and Eggman's...an annoyance, more than anything.

The thing is that a lot of Freedom Fighters appeal is connected to a large dose of lore and backstory and development that would likely be hard to implement into a games story. Hell some didn't even like how Archie rebooted a lot of stuff.

One character I REALLY want to see reappear is Cosmo. Having a sentient plant person makes for a nice contrast to the Funny Animals of the Sonic universe.

But....... Cosmo's dead.

We already had that scandal with Shadow.
