[up] Spicelia? [lol]

Got two questions:

  • First, can my character come with his starter, or does he have to get one along everybody else? Either is fine by me.
  • Can I have the Snivy equipped with Cut already, or teach him (via HM) soon after?

Otherwise I'm ready to go.

[up]It's better than nothing, which is what I have. Spicelia Region it is~!

Anyways, I was kind of planning on starting off with all the kids getting their starters, yeah. And as for the Cut thing... Um... If you can find some way to handwave it (like, Johnny's parents already have the HM or something), then I guess I'm fine with it.

[up] Then I'll get the Snivy along everybody else. No problem there.

Argh! One Mooore Thing! Remember the Pokedex thing? Can Johnny start with one (or get one from the Professors?) Or does everyone get one?

I'm still deciding whether to nickname Turtwig.

I suppose I could name him Link after my Platinum Nuzlocke Torterra...

Hmmm... I'm just going to let everyone have a Pokedex, possibly handwave it by having the Research Center giving out a starter Pokemon and a Pokedex every year to kids who are about to set out on their Pokemon journey as some kind of research aid or something. Um... If that makes sense.

Also, I already have a name picked out for my Bulbasaur, but that can wait until later.

So, question: How are we handling the Pokemon personalities in this game? Are they fully sentient and emotional beings like the anime, or just domesticated animals?

Maybe we can strike a compromise between the two? I mean, a lot of dogs and cats have personalities and have specific likes, dislikes, etc.

I don't mind the Pokes having personalities -real life pets have them too, you know- but I don't want them to be "mute little people". For example, My character's Snivy can sense when his master is sad, but it isn't going to plan a scheme to bring him together with a girl or anything.

Hmm....Cana will be my Treecko's name. She'll be awesome!

I'd prefer Pokemon to be equivalent to really smart dogs in this RP (smart, but still not Sapient). It would make some thing easier, as we wouldn't have to deal with more personalities than our trainer.

That's what I was thinking.

I'll just have Ryan the Turtwig act like my cat. Sandy's smart when she wants to be. : P

I'm with Kiri Ame on preferring the former, but that's two opinions to three, so far.

Maybe have it vary by species? A psychic type without intelligence at least in the same ballpark as a human doesn't make a lot of sense, for one example.

It's been shown that most are in fact sapient... I like the dolphin option.

Obviously something like a Psychic-type is going to be more intelligent and empathetic than a Bug-type. I suppose it'd vary on the Pokemon in question.

Sijo from Puerto Rico Since: Jan, 2001

In addition to the Fridge Horror of having an entire environment full of sapient beings that prey on each other, there's also the way the Pokes are used in the game- captured, traded, kept inside balls or even inside cyberspace without even a "may I?"

I don't mind if some Pokemon are sapient, just not most of them.

Maybe Psychic-type Pokemon just have a very different outlook on the world and don't mind being captured?
