Considering how much some of their clothing costs, it would not surprise me.

Maybe the flammable stuff costs a crapload.

Also, I guess the reason is balance.

I also hear rumors that there may be a future Linux release (something about a "Linux32" directory being present).

The game is out, but I still can't install.

EDIT: OK, it looks like the Beta became the main game, but both are still in my inventory...

Beta became the main game for me, and the other disappeared. I kept all my Beta achievements. Is that normal?

I'm loving Arms Race, honestly. Especially since I can jump on between getting ready for work and leaving for work, and complete a round.

[up] I kept all of my beta achievements too, so I guess that's normal. Speaking of Arms Race mode (which I agree is fantastic), whatever happened to that reverse-Arms-Race mode called "Arsenal Mode" they were talking about? The achievements in the beta made several references to it, but those are now missing. I believe it was the mode Total Biscuit was playing in his Wtf is.... video.

No idea. I only started playing last weekend, and wasn't paying much attention before that. Maybe there wasn't a whole lot of point to it with Arms Race around?

EDIT: Looking at the CS wiki implies to me that Arsenal mode got split into Arms Race and Demolition.

Double post!

Played for a few hours last night, and goddamn I'm rusty. But! Enjoying it immensely.

Yesterday I actually got to golden knife level on Arms Race. The server was modified to play arms race mode with the normal maps (inferno, nuke, etc.) and it was really fun. I didn't get the winning kill, since this was on Nuke which is a really long range map and therefore had to get a knife kill on, but it was fun. I imagine Office would be a blast for Arms Race. A recent patch seems to have screwed up the game though, as every time I try to play demolition or do the weapons course, everyone stays frozen and the game just keeps cycling through the maps. Not good.

I managed to get my golden knife into someone's back on Aztec! That was a mission and a half...

Inferno would also be excellent for Arms Race, actually.

[up] I played Inferno on Arms race and it was really fun. Inferno isn't really my favorite in normal gameplay, but it's fantastic in arms race.

EDIT: They seem to have fixed the problem with Demolition and the weapons course that was happening earlier. Even if you're the best Counter-Strike player in the world, I strongly reccomend the weapons course because it's hilarious. It's like someone made a really snarky, self-aware parody of every Captain Obvious tutorial level in an FPS ever. Really funny stuff for something that lots of players will probably ignore.

Has anyone gotten kicked from a server because of a VPK mismatch?

Hope I don't somehow get VAC-banned because of that (as irrational as that worry sounds), because I tried to play on a custom Zombie Mod server until I got auto-kicked for some reason.

EDIT: I also should have mentioned that I got kicked from a regular matchmaking server because of that, but verifying the cache seemed to fix that.

All of that aside, game's fun. It takes Counter-Strike and gives it more character/personality, which I like.

Happened to me once. No problem when I tried reconnecting.

[up][up]If you got kicked for a mismatch, there's a chance that the server hadn't updated to the latest version yet. Probably not a big deal.

Good point.

I also would like to add to the "hipster terrorist" thing from a few pages ago: the Terrorists on Office are actually kinda more like punks or murderous teens who happen to be wearing skinny jeans.

Actually, probably my favorite character model is the bank robber on one of the Demolition maps. The voice acting is awesome.

So what are people's thoughts on weapon niches? I haven't played since CS 1.0, so some of this is new to me!

I still grab an AK most of the time (even off a dead T), but on some maps (Train, Inferno) I'll stick to an M4. I use the SIG or AUG for the slightly larger maps with both indoor and outdoor elements (Aztec, Nuke).

Not a big fan of sniping, personally. Though I'll grab a semi-auto if I feel like blowing a huge wad of cash. I also barely use the shotguns. I use submachineguns a lot more often as a CT than as a T, and I only bother with light machineguns if I kill someone and they drop it (purely for the irony).

I also have a recurring problem/curse with dying in any round in which I buy grenades (it's fine if I pick up someone else's though...).

I'd love to be able to use SM Gs instead of rifles, but I swear those things are filled with B Bs instead of bullets. I once shot one guy with 10 bullets from an MP 9 at close range (saw blood splatters and all) and got nothing. A teammate finished him off.

Other than that, I do like to try to pull out the SSG sniper when I'm feeling lucky. I've once gotten an over 3-kill streak in one round with it. Shotguns are pretty good, except the automatic one. Takes 3 hits even at point blank range to kill, unless it's a headshot of course.

I only use submachineguns if I really have to, which happens more often on CT than on T ($2250 FAMAS vs $2000 Galil). And even then, I stick to the MP 7, as it's the MP 5 of GO. I used to be a P90 addict, but it's more expensive than either of the budget assault rifles, so I rarely use it these days.

EDIT: Who do I have to pay for a Global Offensive version of cs_assault?

[up] I think they've mentioned cs_assault as coming in a free update, but don't quote me on that.

I agree that the smg's are pretty useless, there's a reason they're the first guns you get in Arms Race after all. I rarely use shotguns as well, but I've been loving the Mag 7 for Office. I haven't really used it much on the other maps, but I tried it on Inferno and it worked well.

@mr poly: if you're playing casual mode it's because everyone gets armor, which cuts smg damage in half but only reduces rifle damage by about a quarter.

I finally tried the zombie mod. Overall, it's pretty fun, even if there's really no way for humans to win (I guess a tie could count as a win for those who survive). I was standing on top of a crate with three other humans (I think the map was called "panic" or something) and the four of us were shooting at zombies, but then I got turned into one and no one noticed, so I turned the other three into zombies before anyone could react. The best moments are definitely when you transform an entire group. I was a bit surprised to see that it uses reworked models from Half-Life 2, as the official Counter-Strike blog seemed to imply there would be a custom zombie model. I can see myself sinking a good deal of time into it.
