There's no Latin American country that hasn't been ruled by lunatics at some point or another.

I'd apologize for that, but america put the corrupt sociopaths in power, not the lunatics. Though, I'd wager said autocrats led to the conditions for said lunatics.

Could be worse off, could be Paraguay during the triple alliance.

[up][up]The problem is that they are all, save a few, being run by lunatics.

It is becoming the norm...again.

The USA isn't quite known for making "free" and succesful nations, the rich people of Cuba were taken piece by piece until Miami and Las Vegas were born, the UK is much more succesful in that aspect.

Anyway the Reds can only get crazier from now on. There is nothing in the usual Venezuelan politics that can truly help us. I believe we now have, for the very first in a long time, a golden chance to make a true Republic.

Things may have been different for us if only we had a decent balance between center left-right politics. Caldera didn't follow the Punto-Fijo pact and became just another Populist who opened up relationships with Cuba and was a good friend of hugo's parents and so on... Chavism would have never made it into power if it wasn't because of COPEI's efforts.

Caldera is such a huge traitor that he is probably enjoying hell with the galactic.

I don't think the country will fall under another maniac for quite a while.

How is it possible that so many judges and lawyers follow the executive power like it was nothing? That the FAN got destroyed with them inside and being so apathetic about it? That people giving up basic rights in order to get small, meaningless rewards?

We have decayed in every way but thanks to that we have a chance of becoming a Republic. I'll take a lot of work to get the country on the right track again so there will be no room for populism nor our usual mistakes.

The human species' potential for mistakes is limitless.

There's no actual 'rock bottom' in how low a society can sink, at least none we have found yet. Several cultures have fallen into downward spirals and stagnation states that haved lasted decades and even centuries. There's no magical snapping-out-of-it point that forces a society to go up once it's gone sufficiently down, because sociocultural decay makes us collectively dumber in a vicious circle that is extremely hard to escape from.

I agree, the fact that people still defend Chavez actions out of blindness, or support the regime out of sheer apathy is proof of it. But still we shouldn't underestimate the way politics work. People are dumb and they tend to follow the herd. I gotta hand it to Leopoldo, back then when he turned himself in, I never thought he had it planned but yeah, It's something he did out of cunning, Leopoldo is a scary guy, more so than Diosdado, so I dare say Platanote has a huge rope on his neck and things couldn't be better for the rule of law to guide our actions for once.

That doesn't mean we won't make the same mistakes in the future, but still, if I can help make all those ideals I was taught in school about the Venezuelan people being destined for greatness and happiness come true I'll be satisfied.

Feeling patriotic today, don't you?

We'll definitely fuck up again, but I do feel we've learned a couple lessons along the way. I think in the very long term it'll be a net gain for the nation.

As for Leopoldo, I just think he wants to be president real hard. But hey, if it helps us, all the better.

So, what are everyone's opinion on Manuel Rosales turning himself in?

I want to believe he expects the government going down very soon, but I doubt it'll work out that way.
