I just had a thought and it was this I is dark fantasy a deconstruction of fantasy?

I will say, though, that my best friend in deconstruction so far has been Crapsaccharine World. A brilliant trope, that.

Not exactly; it can be a pretty big part of the subgenre, but there's a little more to it.

I feel this belongs more on Trope Talk, assuming that what the OP was asking (which was slightly unclear) was whether Dark Fantasy is a type of deconstruction.

The answer is a resounding No. For like the fifteenth time: deconstruction != Darker and Edgier. Deconstructions tend to be darker then "straight" tropes, as the basic idea involves showing the logical and realistic consequences of said tropes, which in many cases can have nasty consequences. But equating them is a common and seriously annoying mistake.
