Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

The bloat is getting to the point where I'm consciously deciding now which superhero franchisees I'll see, The Fantastic Four is one which didn't make a cut, which is a shame, as although I've always struggled to find interest in The First Family, I would love for someone to catch my eye and make me interested.
And really, I thought Fox were going to do it when I assumed they were going to tie it into their brilliant X-Men universe. The Four are such brilliant mirror images of the X-Men and benefit so much from the sixties/seventies setting it seemed like an obvious choice. Reed Richards works as a character in an X-Men story, Ben Grim works as a character in an X-Men story, Doctor Doom seriouslyworks in an X-Men story, Franklin Richards IS PART of the X-Men story. Feck, the U-Foes are people who looked at the mutant plight and said; Yeah, that looks nifty let's go into space and try that out.
Okay, the time line struggles to stretch the characters ages, but if you're happy to have Reed Richards be a genius who got his PHD's in his teens and delay their premier to the moon landing in 1969, that still makes Reed only 65ish today. (Be Grimm can be much older because being stone it's plausible he doesn't age. It does complicate things as presumably the Storm siblings would be even younger, but considering it's their farther that Reed would be working with; it's workable)
Really I think it's a shame that Fox aren't adding to their brilliant alternative history, I love how ingrained the X-Men already feel in history. Heck, the idea of Spidey returning to MARVEL is boring me, why not wish for Spidey to go to Fox?
I basically just watch the Marvel Studios movies. I might see Wonder Woman and Cyborg because I love those characters so much. But aside from that? Nah.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I plan to watch Batman V Superman because I loved Man of Steel and I want to see where that version of Kal-El is going, and I'll watch the Justice League movie because I believe that will advance that storyline too, (When the central question of Man Of Steel was 'Can Kal-El find acceptance and a home?' a base on the moon populated with people such as himself seems like a resolution to that central theme) and I plan to watch Wonder Woman because that film will be interesting regardless of if it's good or not.
Other than that, I'm promising myself I wont get invested in the deluge of new DC film franchisees.
I'll be watching all of the MARVEL Studios movies, anything in the FoX-Men verse, and I'm looking forward to more stories in the Amazing Spider-man world, but I'm prepared to abandon that if the direction changes from what I was anticipating.
I already made my feelings about the Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four movies clear, so those I'm abandoning. Batman vs. Superman I lost any real desire to see a long time ago and I frankly won't bother with the rest of the DCCU. X-Men looks like the only non-Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise I have any interest in.
And X-Men is the only group that has been building the franchise independent of Marvel's success. All the others are just reacting to Marvel.
And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.NVM.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Yeah, I was looking at that big chart of upcoming movies, and I realized I'm gonna cut way down on my superhero flicks. Sticking with the MCU, obviously, and Batman v. Superman. No's for Fantastic Four and Wolverine. Lots of doubtful maybes for the DC movies, depending on reviews.
It's funny to finally start seeing my own perspective to the genre start changing.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.Unless there's a full cast, trailer, or poster out, I'm not listening too any "several years down the road" list.

(V)(;,,;)(V)Age of Ultron trailer next week after Agents of SHIELD.
I'll be missing it. Flash is on at the same time.
(V)(;,,;)(V)How? Flash is at 8:00. Agents is at 9:00.
My timezone has them on at the same time.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Besides, it'll be on You Tube within hours anyway.
I'll probably ditch anything with Batman in, continue to ignore the X-Men as I always have (I'll actually be watching Days of Future Past for the first time tonight), and Spider-Man will depend largely on buzz. MCU and F4 have my full support until things go off the rails, and of course I'm going to see stuff like Wonder Woman and Cyborg.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.LMAO watch SHIELD's ratings go up for like 3 minutes.
[insert joke about Nielson misreporting the ratings here]
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I shall look forward to your opinions on DOFP. Pronounced DAHfip.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think I can accurately predict what they will be based on my reactions to previous ones. If the emphasis is on the "old" cast, it'll be "eh, it's okay but feels kinda like a rote action flick." If the emphasis is on the "new" cast, it'll be "this has some interesting concepts and a neat story but isn't quite clicking for me for some reason."

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. Is it really that cut and dry?
Oh God! Natural light!Well, again, that's based on how I've felt about the previous X-Men films I've watched, so...
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. But there's only been one movie with the "new" cast. Not really enough of a pattern to make such an assumption on.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.Oh, and sorry if it seems like I'm trying to tell you what to think. But it's also worth noting, if it was the cast of First Class that didn't click for you, they spend some time interacting with the old cast in Do FP, which may change how you enjoy their acting.
The story's also fun if you like time travel hijinks.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.I am fond of time-travel hijincks to a certain degree, but from what I've heard its purpose in this movie (and the purpose of the movie in general) is basically shuffling stuff around to exile all the X-Men movies I didn't see because people told me not to out of continuity. Which doesn't seem like a lot of fun.
The cast of First Class honestly clicked for me more than the originals, with the exception of the folks playing Xavier and Magneto—who weren't bad, but, y'know, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are a lot to measure up to.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. The movie stood along well enough on its own, except for the whole Show, Don't Tell aspect of "if things were going to go to shit in the original timeline, maybe you should've shown that instead" that was fundamental to the plot.
The sad, REAL American dichotomy
