I... just don't get that image.
Indeed. Why didn't I mentioned this in this conversations I have no idea.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Seconding pull.
It probably goes without saying, but I agree with the motion to pull.
For refrence, here's the current pic:
Once more, I'd just suggest a battered and beaten hero standing tall and celebrating or a before and after picture showing both parts of the trope.

Well the simple answer to me seems to be the scene after the death of Rachel in Batman: The Dark Knight, when Batman is standing on the rubble with the fire being put out in the background.
As I can't post external images, I can't show you, but I'm sure you could find it easily with a GIS.
If you're willing just to take a chance, you're gonna shine, shine on my friend. Shine on, my friend.I'm pretty sure that kind of thing is a spoiler. Or it wouldn't show the trope.
Fight smart, not fair.I wouldn't say it was a spoiler...I mean, it shows him standing there. It doesn't show anyone dead or anything. Plus, it's a picture on one of the DV Ds/was in the trailer/etc. I don't see why it would be a spoiler.
Also, if it doesn't demonstrate the trope, I don't see why Batman: The Dark Knight would be listed as an example under the trope. Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding something. This would be a lot easier if I could post pictures...in a few days maybe.
If you're willing just to take a chance, you're gonna shine, shine on my friend. Shine on, my friend. It's more than possible for an image to be an example, but not display the trope. That happens a lot, and why the Just A Face And A Caption administrivia page was made. Because everyone was posting images of their favorite examples, which did precisely nothing to help illustrate the trope.
Fair enough. I just figured this would be a good example because of what Godzillawolf said. If it isn't a good one then I'll pull it from suggestion. I mean, I think it's good, but, again, maybe I don't understand the trope correctly.
But it's certainly not a spoiler. Or a very good one, at the least.
If you're willing just to take a chance, you're gonna shine, shine on my friend. Shine on, my friend.Part of the reason it wouldn't work alone is it doesn't show the happy ending part, it defiently shows the dark part, but not the happy ending part.
Is it safe to remove the present image?
Ah, okay, fair enough. How about an image of the flag being raised at Iwo Jima? Unless I'm Completely Missing The Point again, I mean, it shows beaten soldiers raising the American flag after fighting for days and seeing hundreds of people die.
Anyone that doesn't know what I'm talking about, just do a Iwo Jima GIS. There are plenty of them.
If you're willing just to take a chance, you're gonna shine, shine on my friend. Shine on, my friend. It's on several pages all ready.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickHaha oh dear...This is terrible. I have to give up on this one but I'll keep an eye on it in case of some inspiration or something.
If you're willing just to take a chance, you're gonna shine, shine on my friend. Shine on, my friend. Is it safe to remove the present image? IT seems everyone agrees it doesn't suit the trope.
I think so. Most people didn't go all fancy talk, but they seemed to agree it was terrible after I made the motion. We can do it again if people want to make it all official looking.
Fight smart, not fair. It'd probably be best to do it offically as possible.

That could work.
Should we remove the present pic since we've pretty much universally decided it's not fitting?
Oh, and is this trope about works involving the good guys working hard to get that happy ending, or works making a Downer Ending seem genuinely likely but averting it? (The description seems to imply the latter.)
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartHow about a picture of a guy who's gotten the crap beaten out of him giving his girl a flower that's sorta ruffled, with her looking worried, impressed, possibly blushing?
it's more like "oo- pretty colors" crazy, than "Mwahaha! I'm princess stabbity! stab-kill-kill"The pic works with the quote beneath it.
Keep it.
No, the caption works. The pictured does jack squat.
Did anyone actually vote to remove the image or was I just talking to myself up there?
Fight smart, not fair.I tried searching for the Die Hard ending. The best I found was this◊.
This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.
To me, this picture really doesn't seem to say anything about the trope. Yeah, it shows a difficult quest in progress, but that's not the primary point of the trope. The focus of Earn Your Happy Ending is they went through heck to truly earn their happy ending. The picture as is doesn't really suggest there's a positive outcome at all. For all we know, they fall into the sea and drown. It doesn't seem to demonstrait the trope in full, just the hardship part.
I would personally suggest a before and after pic, part of it the hardship they went through and the other their happy ending, or a picture of a battered and bruised hero who has clearly just went through one heck of a fight standing tall in their happy ending.
