"MEDICINE is the controlled use of chemicals and physical processes to heal the sick and injured. MALPRACTICE is the practice of medicine in an improper manner which harms the patient. Injecting Metaluca with something like... whatever the hell Kohaku just used? Malpractice. For all we know, she's trying to kill us. But you guys want to defend her? Fine. But I'm not trusting her after that. I've got sharp ears, Kohaku. So watch what you say."

...and that's terrible.

Nanoha wasn't willing to release Cletus. Not yet, not after he just punched Kohaku like that. "You're not going to attack Kohaku-san again, are you?"

"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."

"As much as I hate to say this, the woman is safer with us." Sani replied, looking at the slightly intoxicated woman as he answered Cletus. "For one thing, we're already high up on the stalk. For another thing, beasts won't hesitate to attack easy targets. The reason I myself can live here is that all the native animals recognize my scent and are scared of me. With the others who have not instilled fear, leaving her behind would result in her death." Sani continued, a grim look on his face. "When you hunt ingredients, you risk your life until you finish. This world is a cruel mistress, impartial to anything weak enough to be exploited." The man said, speaking through experience.

Gunner was kneeling in front of the maid, paying no heed to anything else save for supporting the bleeding woman.

Nanoha was reluctant. She didn't see anything wrong with Kohaku administering medical attention to people who needed it... she deactivated the spell keeping Cletus locked in place. "Please don't hurt her again."

"See, you really need to be clearer there, Nanoha. If I snap her neck, she'll die without feeling a thing and end up back in the Crystal City. I know because Scorpion killed me, and that's where I ended up."

Nanoha's eyes narrowed.

"Restrict Lock"

The loops of magical energy reappeared around Cletus's limbs. Nanoha was adverse to killing as it was. When there was such a flippant remark about killing a friendly maid... "No."

"No one needs to die," Nanoha replied, now keeping Raising Heart trained on Cletus. "There's no reason for it! If everyone I'd ever fought died, I'd never really have met Fate-chan, or Hayate-chan, or any of the Wolkenritter... and you haven't even fought Kohaku-san!"

"And if nobody I ever fought died, the NCR soldiers who were being crucified in Nelson would have died, the people on the Strip would have gotten a whole lot of bullets in their chest, and my mother- pretty sure I mentioned this, but once again, eaten in front of me by cannibals when I was younger than you- would never be able to rest in peace. We're from different worlds, kid, and I envy you for coming from one where there's a chance your enemies will one day be friends. But as long as my enemies are slavers, cannibals, and the Legion, I'm not leaving a one alive."

Nanoha's response was short and to the point.

"Kohaku-san is none of those."

"She's better at this than any of the people I grew up with*

. Leave her alone." Byakuren said, glaring at Cletus and apparently having taken the brief lull in fighting to get a lollipop into her mouth. She didn't like what Kohaku had done but so long as it was good for the Gunner then it didn't matter, "Meta-chan, stay close to me. I'll make sure no more animals try to eat you."

Crossing his arms and shrugging, Mehir went to the back of the column. He remained on foot, but did not seem to have any problem to keep up with the vehicles. He walked after the vehicles, muttering to himself and making mystical passes. Soon enough, a Circle formed near him, this one golden in colour. It flowed into the shape of a four-armed, golden-skinned, nude woman; in three of her arms, she held scimitars, and in the fourth she held an earthenware bowl in which a flame burned. The corrupted Summoner whispered something in her ear, and she began to patrol around his immediate surroundings.

Mind control drug! I knew it! And so does everyone else, apparantly... Tyrell thought when Cletus started giving Kohaku a lecture on the Hippocritic Oath. Never heard that one but it sure sounds nice. It's really comforting to have a real doctor who knows what he's doing here.

"Look I realise that what she did was wrong but do you really think we have to kill her over it? People die when they are killed, and their loved ones don't always get the chance to revive them. You should know that by now considering what you just said.''

Nanoha lowered Raising Heart, but the loops around Cletus's limbs did not dissipate. He'd threatened to kill Kohaku multiple times and he had not once recanted. In Nanoha's mind, that meant he could not just be released.

"I'm not letting you go," she said, to clarify.

"Heh... Ahahah!" Kohaku laughed cheerfully, despite her current condition. "Me? Kill any of you? You're so silly~! I'm not the one with the giant magical lasers, am I? I'm just a maid, that's all. I couldn't kill a fly, let alone anyone here. Not that I'd want to, anyway. Well, not Nano-chan or Purple-chan or Meta-chan, at least. They're too nice to kill, unlike a certain surly guy who I will not name, ufu~"

That guy's smarter than he looks. Too smart, maybe. Sigh, Shiki-san was always easier to fool... And Akiha-sama always let me get away with it. I kinda miss the mansion...

Nanoha didn't respond. She saw no reason to distrust Kohaku, and there was surely no reason to hurt her. She maintained the loop binds on Cletus's limbs.

"Yes, Byakuren..." Gunner replied, the drug making her susceptible to suggestions. She moved closer to the monk as soon as Cletus was bound up.

"I don't know much about medicine, but whatever Ms. Smiley did worked. Let it go for now, and let's hurry so your friend can get proper treatment all the faster, since we're near our goal." Sani said, attempting to break up the fight.

"Right... Meta-chan, I'm going to carry you again, you seem like you'd crash into the corn..." Byakuren said, ignoring Cletus and once again scooping up the Gunner. Hopefully, it wouldn't take too long to get to the top... the water was starting to weigh her hair down and making the purple even darker in comparison to the more golden locks below.

Leaving Cletus bound and pulling him through the air behind her, Nanoha ascended higher. The rain was a bit hard to fly through, and it made her pigtails droop, but it wasn't all that bad really.

The group that ascended would see that they had indeed reached their goal, that of a giant corn cob that rose majestically from the stalk, lending its name, the Blue Blood Corn, the appearance of an approving noble glancing down upon its subjects.

The thing dwarfed them, easily being at least 8 stories high, one of the smaller corns compared to the more massive 20 stories high neighbors, but still rather impressive in its own right. Thick corn fibers were entwined about each other, hugging the delicious innards in multiple layers of green, tough armor.

"Get cracking." Sani stated, waiting to see how they would go about their task, made even harder with the downpour that lent everything a slick surface as well as obscuring vision, not to mention messing around with the body's ability to regulate temperature.
