Randall Terry Facebook Twitter It's automatcially assumed Obama will be the 2012 Democrat candidate because the mainstream media ignore primary challengers unless they are someone famous (ie the declined list). Others include: Sanderson Beck, Jeff Boss, Willie Carter, Deonia Neveu, Dean Philips, John Sawyer, Vermin Supreme, etc.

Unless something goes horribly wrong, he's getting the nomination, especially since these other guys aren't exactly setting the world on fire.

Well, maybe one of those candidates will end up replacing Hillary as Sec. of State.

I doubt any of these people would get shit done as well as Obama.

[up]Sanderson Beck is actually to the left of Obama! Check his website, he more like Nader. I like the fact his last name is Beck, but that's because of another Beck.

Why is the last name of only one of the candidates listed?

Anyhow, it's pretty much a tradition in American politics for a party to run the incumbent unless they've done something scandalous.

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?

How many incumbent presidents have declined to run again (in recent memory)?

I know Johnson was told by his donors, "You're through", then packed up and left.

Truman declined to run in 1952. He also offered not to run in 1948 if Eisenhower agreed to run instead.

@Secretist: Right now the US needs a centrist, compromiser. Not a left man who the right would not udge a inch with.

I'd rather see someone socially liberal who is willing to tax the rich, get rid of the bush tax cuts, and not go off and spend a ton of money on welfare stuff until we're financially on our feet again.

I couldn't possibly care less about social issues, since they're completely irrelevant under a compromised economic and political system. I want zombie FDR (or maybe zombie Eugene Debs,) though I guess I'd settle for Nader, Kucinich or Sanders.

Oh, so we can have zombie candidates then? Bring back Eisenhower and FDR. Have a dual Presidency. Problem solved.

Agreed, popularity polls indicate my own opinion on the matter to be that of most other voters, Democrat or not: Obama is the most trustworthy and competent branch of federal government at present, while both the Republican and Democratic halves of the legislature are somewhere between useless and dangerous.

If any Democrat is going to take a nosedive in 2012, it's the legislators.

The risk of someone like Bachmann winning is too terrible to even consider voting for a 3rd party in 2012.

Hopefully we cant get a real progressive in 2016.

^ Well you better not place your expectations on Obama. He's basically become the fall guy for whoever emerges the more ideologically sound in the debt talks and all legislation for the next year. (Not that he wasn't already given the first two years of his Presidency and siding with unpopular shit.)

Secondly there's also another problem, no incumbent has ever won re-election when the unemployment rate is above 7.6%. It's presently 9.2% with no signs of dropping significantly any time soon.
