So the teaser for Rebirth does not show gameplay, like the halloween update or the Wrath Of The Lamb trailers, on the other hand I would argue that it is creepier than those two.

Also the teaser confirms that Rebirth will be released for PS 4, PS Vita and Steam on 2014.

Rebirth the console release or another expansion or like a director's cut?

Still finding the game utterly impossible to finish. The RNG cannot be beaten.

Rebirth is a stand alone remake of the game with demake graphics and it is promised to add a lot more content, around Wrath Of The Lamb amount of content.

Which characters do you have unlocked so far?

Try to collect enough coins to unlock Cain. I find that he's typically easier to run down to Mom with. Specifically because you don't have to worry about bad pills.
Also, try to find the secret rooms.
There are always two secret rooms on every floor, and they'll sometimes have things like liver (+2 HP) or the 1-UP Mushroom. Usually its coins or a vending machine.

One of those secret rooms is always adjacent to exactly three other rooms. The other ("super-secret") secret room is adjacent to only one other room, but can be accessed by bombing a seemingly solid wall, just like the regular secret room.

The way the game generates a level is that the super-secret room is placed first. Then the game places all of the normal rooms such that only one of them is touching the super-secret room. Lastly, the game places a regular secret room so that it will connect to three other rooms.

The end result of this is that the regular secret room does not count towards the only-one-adjacent requirement for the super-secret room, but the super-secret room does count as one the three rooms that must be adjacent to the regular secret. The two secrets might not be adjacent on any given map, but those are the rules for when they are.

In summary, it's usually not worth it to bomb every single wall in hopes of finding a secret room. But if you see only one or two places on the map where an empty space is surrounded on three sides, go ahead and bomb.

Unless you have something like Ipecac or something else that makes your shots explode. Then you can go to town.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

Also Cain starting item, the lucky foot, makes arcades much more usefull by giving you increased chances of winning the shell game, the slot machines, making the blood bank pay with at least 2 coins and making the fortune teller never give you a fortune so the fortune tellers always have to pay up with something.

Ok, I had no idea that the secret rooms were a given. I figured out the "horse shoe" and check from time to time.

I could have had Cain if I knew you had to have 55 coins at once. I got like 70 on my last run and spent a chunk of it. Got killed hording it at 49.

The sacrifice room and the devil room? Really worth it?

Sacrifice room as in the room that has spikes in the door and in the map appears with the whore of babylon symbol or the room that has spike on the floor and may give a chest? If it is the first one, they are worth it you can get a deal with the devil item or angel room item for free, also taking a judgement card and making the normal beggar to pay there will also give you an item from those item pools. If it is the other room, they are generally not worth it but may help you get some cents or bombs which can be usefull sometimes.

Deals with the devil items are mixed but it is almost always worth it to see what items are in there. The only times you should be carefull of entering is if you have low health because Krampus may kill you, on the other hand you can only have one Krampus fight per run so if you beat Krampus all the following devil rooms are safe to enter.

The lucky foot doesn't affect the slot machine, but it pays out pretty well regardless.

If you wave Wrath of the Lamb, then passing up devil rooms makes angel rooms slightly more likely to appear. Having angel items makes angel rooms more likely to appear. Devil/angel rooms almost always appear if you can go through a floor without getting hurt. If you enter a devil/angel room, a door to one will not appear on the next floor. You can still get to one with some luck and a means of teleportation.

Devil rooms' value are determined entirely by what they have. The mark? Useful. The dead cat? I really, really wouldn't buy it.

the dead cat is really more of a Lethal Joke Item. When you combine it with guppy's paw, or give it to blue baby, or get 2 more cat items it's AWESOME.

But it also drops you to one health, which can be a death knell for anyone struggling to get to Mom... or otherwise.

True enough. OK, so, that's an option. Just don't die. Doing that will reset your heart containers back to one.

it is, as I said, a Lethal Joke Item: Usually horrible and useless, but SOMETIMES, SOMETIMES it's AWESOME.

Rebirth is slowly yet surely creeping closer and closer...

My TBOI love is resurfacing. Gonna hype myself by playing it a bit.

Seriously, I hate this game.

I unlocked Cain. 55 coins and a store on the level, maybe I can get lucky and get something powerful.

Super-Greed is inside, takes all my coins, and kills me.

Is it too much to ask to even think I have a good run going?

That is actually a problem with WOTL because the expansion made the game harder for everyyone, new players found it much more difficult and frustrating to play sad

A cheesy way to have a good run would be to get the game to run at low frames (maybe by having a lot of things open so the cpu usage is high?), the reasoning is that because the game plays slower you have more time to react and dodge enemies.

I prefer rogue-likes to be near-to-impossible, myself.
I understand that others have frustrations, but I bought the game to die over and over and get marginally better over time.

Yes; Really, even if you did have the money, it's advisable to save it, and buy WOTL after you've completed most of the Vanilla game.

[up][up]I agree with that.

I think the problem with starting directly with WOTL is that while the dlc added a lot of items that makes the game easier, some of those require to have defeated Mom a few times while the expansion made the path to those items a lot harder.

Double post but I remembered another thing you can try to make the game easier. Try doing the Dark was the Night challenge, it is like a normal run but with curse of darkness in all the floors which is annoying but if you win the challenge you unlock The Candle which is a really overpowered space bar items and the only space bar items that recharges after one or two second instead of completing rooms. The challenge is not much more difficult a normal run and you can use pen and paper to make a map so then it just becomes an annoying challenge.

I can't remember what its called, but the unlucky challenge is actually the easiest. Especially since, due to a glitch, your -2 luck becomes 98 luck.
