I wasn't aware that they had hand prosthetics good enough to allow a return to active duty.

He was a Staff Sergeant and is most definitely getting promoted to Sergeant First Class if he hasn't already, so he won't be in a combat capacity anymore. He'll be in a planning capacity.

But the fact that they let us stay in after getting prosthetics these days is awesome. I remember meeting a sniper school instructor who had one of those prosthetic hook legs, mofo could fucking run, it was almost better than a real leg on flat ground.

There's a runner who can't compete in the Olympics BECAUSE he has prosthetic legs.

It's an artificial advantage.

But in the case of the ranger, I hope he adapts to writing with his other hand, if it wasn't his dominant one anyway.

The Modern line of prosthetics have enabled fighting me to return to field. There is a guy who lost both his legs who went back to the field.

Given they aren't in frontline roles, but still. Most of us could pick up a rifle and be useful in a pinch if a firefight started.

The guy was on the Daily Show. His replacement hand is incredible. It is articulate and is supposedly pressure reactive to a point.

It was also kind of hillarious. He was talking about how he lost his hand. He said he saw a grenade and reached out to grab it. He went to throw it and just as he opened his hand to toss it out it took his hand off. He described the wound as incredibly smooth and clean cut. He then stated that he held his arm for a second and stated he remembered thinking this is less spurty then the movies made me think it would be. At which point I busted a gut laughing.

Tuefel, yeah I saw that interview. I both laughed, and was awed at his sense of humor about it.

Shit, if I ever meet the man, I'll buy his drinks all damn night, even if that means the budget for MY drinks is used up in the process.

His tone was like he was sort of dissapointed it wasn't more spurty which is why I about died laughing. My wife was rolling too.

I need to look that up. Anyone who can have a sense of humor about losing an appendage wins major points in my book.

It'll be good to have a more upbeat MOH recipient. Giunta has some issues he's got to take his time dealing with, this guy doesn't have anyone elses death to feel guilty about, quite the opposite.
