It's "wacky," not "whacky." Wacky Sound Effect is the proper name of the trope.

"Wacky" and "whacky" are both listed in my dictionary as variants.

Wrong. While uncommon, "whacky" is a valid, listed-in-the-dictionary alternate spelling for "wacky." "Whacky" is usually used these days to deliberately invoke a sense of old-timey, hokey silliness (particularly evocative of early black-and-white cartoons).

It's a deliberately silly (and dare I say, whacky) use to make a joke.

I think this is just a typo in the trope name, and suggest renaming to Wacky (which is the common spelling according to my sources).

I can see a mild argument for a redirect swap here.

I wasn't sure how to spell it (I'm German) and the dictionary gave me 'whacky'. According to Google, 'wacky' is way more common, as I see now. Wouldn't oppose a redirect swap.

I thought the rule was "first come, first serve" when it comes to legitimate alternate spellings?

Well, we have the creator (Buck Rivera) here, and he doesn't seem to be objecting. *shrug*

Considering the low inbound count, I've got no issues.

For the record, I've never seen "wacky" spelled "whacky" in my life. It makes me think of "prone to hitting things", not "silly" or "crazy".

When I saw 'Whacky' I assumed there was some sort of pun involved and that it had to do with some kind of collision sound effect being silly.

Want to rename a trope? Step one: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, this is a common spelling mistake, clearly unintentional. We should just go with the common spelling.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

... The current title looks like it means an Unsound Effect for hitting people. Change please.

Uh, could someone else change it or tell me how to edit redirect pages. I seem to have forgotten how to do it.

I wish I could get that kind of attention at the YKTTW stage.

You go into any other edit page, then change the name of the article you're editing (in the URL bar) to match the one you want to edit.

Like so.

(Should we keep Whacky Sound Effect around as an alternate spelling, or just cutlist it as a misspelling?)

Since it's apparently a legitimate spelling of the word, I'd make it a redirect.
