Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So this has been going on for a long time.
Clinton needs to push this hard. The man is a traitor.
Oh really when? The attonated text of the Trump press conference causing controversy today (Curse you, paywalls.)
And the Pope is Catholic. That's non-news.

The Gamefaqs Politics board is flooded with Trump supporters.
No. They're just flooded with trolls.
Granted, that's not much of a difference
Trump is doing terribly with Catholics, and its getting worse.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Yay?
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundThough I'd inject a ray of hope into the thread.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Oh.
YAY!
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundIt wouldn't surprise me that Trump is doing poorly with devout christians. There was an article a while back stating that Utah - the mormon state- has very low Trump support. He's so much of an asshole that it's impossible to ignore.
I mean, it's not like he's insulted a widely popular Pope and constantly been spewing crap about an ethnic group that makes up a large portion of the country and happen to be largely Catholic...

And "to hell with the poor and vulnerable" tends to play poorly with Catholics and Mormons.
The article noted that he's doing poorly with white Catholics as well.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.According to a poll once, Trump was/is considered the least religious candidate.
Having said that, I doubt there are many demographics that like Trump.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"I'd be curious to see the divide within Protestantism, I know that most US Protestant churches are exstreamists but you also have some very liberal ones, I'd assume that the liberal ones back the Dems.

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranThe big denominations, like the Baptists, are quite diverse from what I gather.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I mean, Protestant basically means "miscellaneous", so there's probably a lot of them.
Currently, the protestant church I'm going to talked about a few political issues, but what they've been saying is akin to "calm down, God is in control" and began accusing people too worried about politics to prosperity doctrine on a social level. They did tell their members to be active, voting citizens in their community, though.

"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"I guess that explain why my dad (who is Catholic) supports Trump-he also hates Pope Francis.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not.""Mainline" churches like the Lutherans and Episcopalians tend to be center-right to center-left.
What's there to hate? The man single-handedly saved the Catholic Church from ruin!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. They probably think he's too liberal.
That'd explain why my church keeps giving sermons on accepting and loving people, regardless of differences. I'm glad that other Catholics aren't supportive of Trump either.
If that's not sarcastic, I hardly think that's accurate; the Catholic Church has hardly been on the brink of anything lately.
Arrow-ninja'd. I know Francis is liberal.

This is probably a conversation to take to the religion thread, but I've certainly heard more than one person call him too liberal.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"It's funny because for all his talk about being more tolerant of LGBT+ persons, the Church hasn't made that many strides in terms of action rather than words. Although, considering just how slowly the Catholic Church can be in changing to the times, that alone may mark him as a nearly John Paul I level radical.
The RCC wasn't on the brink of anything, it was in a ditch, slowly sinking into the mud, burning goodwill and losing respect. He pulled it out of the gutter, but it'll take a long time time before its good name is restored.
