Yeah in the West it's been a really warm winter. We're expecting droughts later on because there hasn't been hardly any snow in the mountains.

It's actually very pleasant in the Deep South right now. We're getting back up to early Spring temperatures. I for one approve of this new short winter season.

It has been a very mild winter here in Wisconsin as well. My officemate is constantly grumbling about the fact that he hasn't been able to use his snowmobile all season.

The reason we talk about "global warming" is that there've been studies showing that "climate change" lacks the same emotional impact in audiences. As much as we'd like to think that there is an educated, socially responsible soul at the core of every human being, in reality selling the need for environmental action is exactly like selling any other idea: an exercise in marketing.

If it ever stopped being cold in winter, something is very wrong. Namely the tilt of the earth. Winters gonna be colder, that's just how planets work. (Barring one with nearly perpendicular poles and orbital planes)

A lot of the buzz surrounding climate science isn't helped by climate change denialists who intentionally make the science itself more complicated than it really is. Appeals to populism are a regular talking point of denialists despite a clear misunderstanding of how appeals to populism work in debates when contrasted with scientific consensus. Scientific consensus is not the same as general consensus based on untested values and beliefs, and denialists regularly miss this point.
The actual science behind climate change is relatively simple, and most of it can be understood through the study of high school chemistry, physics and ecology. For example, the whole "we're getting tons of snow" argument. Seeing higher levels of snow is secondary to the fact that we are seeing higher levels of precipitation, which is triggered by higher levels of humidity, which is aggravated by higher CO 2 deposits in the atmosphere. There's also confusion (again, fueled by willful ignorance) about how the upper atmosphere is cooling while the lower atmosphere is warming.
Perhaps the biggest political obstacle to anthropogenic climate change acceptance is the argument that environmental countermeasures are too economically detrimental in the short term.
